It is running on Ubuntu linux. What makes you think otherwise 0.o
EDIT: Ah, let me clarify. The machine running server 2008 is completely separate. I was saying if the Ubuntu server dies, I don't have room for another instance on my virtual server.
Stream compatibility doesn't change between server types, it's all .ogg format. Anything that can decode ogg can be used as a client.
OHHH ok, that makes much more sense now. Thought you were running windows server on the transmission box and were thus not having as much performance as you would like.
Hats off to you for using Ubuntu, I can't think of running windows on a laptop anymore since I made the switch..... though this desktop machine still runs windows for gaming.

Id like to see two separate streams, one for podcasts, news, and classic BT/MW music and another for just music ranging from metal, classic rock, movie and game sound tracks and whatever else fits a MWO drop. But then again, if you are getting lag in game the first thing to go would be anything streaming or downloading.

It's really a licensing issue. I don't have the rights to play them, and Activision is a horrible company. I'll see if there is a way I can play them through fair use or some such. I realize they are on youtube, but that doesn't constitute good legal advice. A lot of videos are muted on youtube because the music protected by a copyright.

Thanks! The bandwidth should last well over a thousand users thanks to multicasting protocols. However, it could result in a very poor gaming experience for me, so I will definitely be looking to migrate the server at some point. When and where I haven't decided yet.
As for multiple streams, I would rather keep one so people don't have to change stations. The podcast marathon will be giving way to other projects, and we will try to focus on live content instead, which can cut into music.

I was talking to a guy recently who was mentioning loopholes with YouTube. Basically if you're streaming/airing/etc. YouTube's content it can fall under a Public Performance, which has much looser licensing policies. I.e. as long as it's on YT, you could broadcast it. I'm sending him an e-mail asking for details.

This is not entirely true. If it were, people would just stream pirated movies and music, and radio stations would not have to pay royalties. You cannot replay any copyrighted content, in its entirety and in public, without consent or contract to do so.

No problem! Glad the voice was up to snuff! Anyways, what I think would be very cool if you could get someone to get those news flashes recorded soon after they were sent out, so it would be much like true breaking news on the radio. Maybe get the devs to give em to ya early, so they air soon after each other.... Just conjecture, but I think it would be kind of cool....
