During this sale I was thinking of buying the Protector, although the IS Orion has some drawbacks. But then I thought, wait - you got the Marauder package, and any loadout of the Protector could be made even better with a Marauder of the same weight. It even has higher hardpoints. Just the missiles are a bit lower. But the arms are higher, the ballistics are higher.

To all Protector owners out there, what am I missing?

Seriously, though, the Protector's humanoid configuration is better for actual close-in brawling. The Marauder is hard to kill from the front, but its huge side profile means you lose arms/torsos fast if you torso twist a lot, or get surrounded. Essentially, the Marauder is what you get when the King Crab and the Stalker have a kid.

Basically, the Marauder is just a better mech. Void is, as usual, correct in that the Orion's shape helps it spread damage in a brawl, the down side is that the Orion's front profile is so large its very easy to hit what component you want even at a distance.

Orion's are just not very good.

Yeah, poor Orion. It was one of my favorite mechs in TT but it's so outclassed.

Even more so on the clan side where the IIC has to compete with the Timberwolf at the same weight.

As someone said above, you can make have ballistics & missiles at the same time.

You can make really brutal short range builds with ACs + SRMS + a few lasers.

Well they gave marauders even higher agility quirks than the Protector so the only reason to buy it is because you like how it looks.
