Really?

... here are the comments from PGI that I am basing my actions on:
  • It's not really against the rules. If someone does this repeatedly to the point where it starts griefing other players, we will investigate further of course. Otherwise, it's a perfectly sound strategy to shut down and hide if it'll net a win.
  • So if you run and hide without ever engaging, that is non-participation. If you fight to the best of your abilites and hide when there is no way for you to win anymore, that is perfectly fine.

What you just posted proves my point and is also a contradiction. If they arent playing to win, they are trolling. The contradiction is in the next line stating is its perfectly fine to hide if there is no way to win.

So like in PGI fashion, they **** up their own rules.

Could you provide a link to the exact PGI quote?

"Powering down as the last mech ingame is pretty lame. Waste of peoples time."

How so? No one is forcing you to stay there and spectate. Hop in another mech. Or go build a new one. Or go make coffee.

What's "lame" is the idea that he is wasting people's time. I guess when the match turns 8-4, the losing side should just suicide out to save you time?

"You deserve to be called out"

You deserve to be banned for it. I ignored Team Treason before, but no longer. I will be reporting and turning video over to PGI. These threads make it obvious that those who support Team Treason need to be reminded about the rules they agreed to when they installed.

If you look closely, they are not really contradicting each other. The first one says hiding is a sound strategy (especially in Assault and Conquest where hiding instead of dying gets you a win). The second says you can also do so even if you cannot win but did join the fight (with the possible exception of the usual red herring people always present -- I say "possible" because I really don't know about that particular one and I am not willing to put it to the test. :P).

My quote is word for word. As such, you can do a search on that.

It's simple, Team Treason is against ToS.

It doesn't matter if the person you are calling coords is a moron, griefer, or whatever, if they are connected and shutdown, you can't give away their location.

You report them AFTER the match to support@mwomercs.com that's it, no calling out their location or giving hints to their location. You either sit and watch and you quit the match, but if you quit before the end of the match, you can't report them because for all you know, they suddenly powered up and killed all the remaining enemy.

PGI's stance on shutting down in Assault and Conquest is clear, it's allowed, end of story.
PGI's stance on shutting down in Skirmish is a different matter, they've given us conflicting statements saying it's allowed and saying it's not allowed per se.

So, simple solution, after the match ends report the person who did it. That's it, no calling out coords to end things quicker, thats not allowed and you can, and often will be, reported for that. As seen by posts IN this thread, we have players who DO THIS CRAP ON PURPOSE TO GRIEF! They will report you, count on it, it's their entire reason for doing it, they are griefers.

I will only give coords in a Skirmish match when the person has obviously hidden, shutdown AND disconnected. Little tip, Mechs do NOT shutdown when you lose connection, you must power them down manually, even overheating and dc'ing during that forced powerdown, the Mech will power back up. So anyone who's facing a wall, powered down and disconnected, that's done on purpose, they aren't coming back, I'll give coords in that situation and that's it. If you are facing a wall and shutdown but still connected, I may well tell you what I think of you, but I won't give your coords and I WILL report anyone who does, and I'll make sure everyone on my team KNOWS I'll report anyone who gives those coords.

In this case, the guy has clear line of sight, a weapons compliment seemingly a decent ambush point, evidenced my the pile of dead mechs... let it play out. Yes his comment about 'hiding with honour' was a tad illadvised.

Now if he had been shut down and facing the wall, I would have had a lot less sympathy for him. PGI should just count a defeat as a death, regardless of you living or dying, then nobody at least would be doing it for stats.

I've said it before and I will say it again. Removing the display of coordinates from dead players would be a very welcome change. Removing "all" chat from these same dead players would be welcome too.

Its a direct contradiction. Its only acceptable if its a net win, if its not a win, then its not acceptable. The next line they say its ok to run and hide if you cant win.

That is the definition of a contradiction...

umm no, you're attempting to fix an issue that doesnt have to exist.

When I die, give me my damn mech back! That will fix everything.

Exactly. Because despite all these threads, its never really been about anything other than dead people wanting the last guy to die already so they can get their mech back.

If that is your opinion, there is a perfectly functional "quit match" button I would ask you to use immediately in matches I am in (as in, before you even leave spawn, just quit...).

Oh come on stjobe! You know as well as everyone else. Most players have only (apparently) 1 Mech and it has just reached Elite status that day. They just added a Module, and a brand new Meta gun. WTF do you expect them to do? Drive another Mech from their garage? LOL! ;)

The coord readout is too damn useful for reporting geometry issues, so it won't be taken away again, I hope, because it does have a very legit use overall. And it is useful for getting the enemy to those players who've hidden, shutdown and disconnected on purpose to grief, which we all know happens on occasion, we've got self admitted griefers in this thread no less.

And since NO ONE is dead in MWO, why can't we all still chat? Remember, according to PGI from day 1, the PILOT never dies in this game, only the Mech's get damaged, we're still there, we've simply ejected(why the hell can't we get an EJECT outside of CW anyway!).

I've often started a convo with an enemy player pre-drop and picked it back up after our Mechs are taken out while we spectate those who are left. Or had a convo with an enemy player after our Mechs are taken out, discussing the Mech they were using or answering questions about my Mech, or sometimes we talk about the patch/upcoming changes. It's about the only time we get to socialize with other players not in our faction ingame in this game, so please don't remove that.

ohh ok, last time I checked, you cant fire or move your mech while powered down......Its tactics for trolls only care about their KDR.

So wasting everyone else's time for a whole extra alpha of damage before you die??? So pro!

No it is not. Yesterday, I did it outside the tunnel entrance on Forest Colony Snow so I could see enemies that came out of the tunnel, report them to the team then ambush them from behind. No trolling or KDR involved.

You guys can say whatever you want. Hiding and powering down when you are the last bot in skirmish is a douche move. Pretending it's a smart move doesn't make it one.

We can advance in different directions, but we can never power down and hide! Cowards will be shot!

Really? Well, you cannot shoot someone who is dead and let's see what you and other like minded folk say after I post a recent match?

Yes it does. So does this.

Well, now let's make things interesting.
I just got out of a match where someone had been shutdown, the FULL story will be interesting to see what responses are and if people actually read.

So team gets wiped except for one guy and here is the spectate of him.
Posted Image

Looks like he shut down. Team gives away position and badly too! But then he powers up and says the line in this next picture marked by the purple arrow.
Posted Image

So he claims to have lost his Internet connection. Then he says what is at the first purple arrow below followed by scoring a kill at the second arrow and getting killed at the third.
Posted Image

End result when his Shadow Hawk-2K is taken out.
Posted Image

Now I left the game and checked a weather service, sure enough there are storms going through Northern Illinois and a big one went through and is currently leaving Michigan rather quick. A good storm can knock out your Internet, even your electric.

Here's the thing. This can happen to anyone in game. None of us would know about it unless the player it happens to managed to get connection back before the match is over like this guy did. So how can anyone AUTOMATICALLY claim a shut down person is protecting their KDR?
This is just one of several examples.

Let's see how many read.

So it's not okay to call out the position of d/c 'mechs? Because they can rejoin, right?
It's not okay to call out AFK 'mechs, because they can return to the match after putting out whatever fire needed putting out, right?
And it's not okay to call out someone trying to set up an ambush (like the OP)?

Maybe the ToS is right after all then, when it says it's never okay to call out a teammate's position.

Shrug.

I call out teammates positions given some the following:

They are shown as DC and/or zero ping
They are still at the spawn at the end of the match (cannot rejoin after 2 minutes anyway)
They fail to respond to direct calls "Hey XXXX, are you playing? Setting up a trap?"
The mech is totally disarmed (out of ammo, or just wrecked)

Other than that, I'll just tell the other team to go cap, our coward is hiding to protect his KDR. That normally irritates them into sufficient action to get killed.

And yes, there are a lot of good reasons I want that mech back. Going through double xp mechs, running with a group and not everyone wants to or is able to change mechs, etc etc.

As per the CoC, you were in violation, no matter what your reason for doing so may have been. It's really as simple as that. There are no ands, ifs, ors, or buts.

Shrug.
