Everybody realizes that rookie stomp happens on both sides. A group of veteran IS or clans hit the Q button they will almost always pull a match with a PUG group. So if you are not in a group of 6 or more your chances go down.
Clan mechs are more forgiving with non-OP builds and mixed ranges, but they tend to be more expensive (or perceived so). IS cheese builds tend to appear cheaper and the quirks do a decent job of spelling them out. I will say that a stock firestarter with a std 200 engine or a std engine Raven with LRMs is like seeing walmart bicycles at the Tour De France.
My dual U-AC5, quad medium laser Ebon has killed many cheese Thunderbolts
It's not the mech or load out, it's the pilot making most of what he brings and knows what he's good at
I know I have the range advantage, speed and an clan XL-Engine
I know how to keep out of range and target for that exposed side torso if they try to protect it too much
I've seen way too may IS XL-Engines these week
They're telling me they need to keep up with speed
I tell them you need to run builds who can tank damage and stay in a group
Pfft
XL Atlas, XL King Crab, XL glass jaegers, XL thunderbolts
Popping them with some teamwork way before they can approach optimally range for IS
Damage range of under 300 because they couldn't get in range of IS medium lasers, or pulse mediums
