Why do the events lately all seem to revolve around selling more mechs? At least previous events gave everyone something for playing regardless if they owned the hero or whatever. I get PGI needs to make some moola, which is fine, but have some common sense and try not to be so blatant about it. Even if what your giving away...is notoriety...(which some will do anything for, even buy mechs to participate) just find a way that everyone can participate in some way.

Because events like this are how F2P games work. Thats what enables them to be F2P.

Instead of paying a cost up front you have to deal with constant solicitation and monetization of everything.

Because that's how PGI makes money? Participation is not mandatory. But neither are the rewards.

The last 8 months they've given away tons of MC. This is likely a sink for the MC.

Now, it is kind of crappy that the free stuff from the 'challenges' aren't there for this one........

I was always taught one of the goals in life was to make money.
I was also taught you get what you pay for.

Because they pissed off the Clanners and lost a lot of Wave III preorders and etc income the Clan players

It's also why the events are more geared to the IS community only.....unless you want to lower yourself running a Surat mech

Why shouldn't a BUSINESS be blatant about making money? Video Games, even "F2P" or possibly, especially F2P, are not Charities or Non Profits.

PGI needs money to pay the Staff, Pay the Utilities and such and to actually develop.

What you are calling "blatant" I reckon some call just being honest.

BTW - You are participating in the event by dropping. It gives the chance for players with heroes to earn the points for the comp.

PGI has every right to try to earn money in this way. Without funding the doors get closed. If this happens I assume you will be the first person to QQ as well.

See it that way:
How many hours have you spent and have had fun?
No regard the amount of money you put into the game and consider the money:time of fun ratio. I am sure it is quite good.

Nothing wrong with that

First we still have event for everyone running at the same time
Second - even if you don't have hero mech you can still use 50% discout on mech bays or premium time.

So, everyone who wants can get a Hero Mech for 50% off. He who doesn´t want to buy one is unaffected.
Those who want can try to climb the leaderboard. Those who don´t want to do that are unaffected.
You can get Mechbays and small bits of Premtime (i.e. if you only want to play a weekend) at a discount.

Finally: The prizes for climbing the leaderboards are not great, you loose next to nothing if you don´t participate.
And the guys who own the Heros can dust them off and have a fun time in their old rides.

Conclusion (Imo of course): There is absolutely nothing NOTHING to complain about.

If people actually saved up the MC from the events they could easily buy a cheap hero mech on sale without ever paying PGI a dime.

Or get a couple of mech bays. I bought 3 mech bays from the rewards of last week's event. Pretty cool imo

Yeah, that too. Some guys get colors and you can get a cheap 1-shot camo for your favorite too.
