I think it's been well over a year since I last played, hell, I didn't even know I had a King Crab when I logged in just for the laughs. Is the game still in a perpetual state of broken ass balancing swings, meta v meta alpha sniping builds, LRM + ECM stacking, and just general swooning over trying to make $$ off suckers rather than a decent game?

Also, have they released a Kodiak yet? If not, peace!

Actually.. the game is the most balanced it's been in a long while. Meta is pretty shaken up, mostly gauss + laser combos or dual gauss. LRMS got nerfed for damage and speed. The only reason you're seeing so much ECM is A) Gift store got a Griffin and Cataphract variant recently, and B ) Timberwolves and Sormcrows took a nerf, so people are running the next best Clan heavy with ECM, the Hellbringer

Try it and find out for yourself. You should have a free Centurion too I believe. Crab is a great 100 tonner

Also, turn on 64 bit if its not already enabled in the client

Jump jets are weak, ECM is too strong, pinpoint alpha rules, and CW is disappointing. Other than that, try a few matches and find out the smaller details for yourself- it isn't too bad if you don't expect too much.

Did they actually fix the graphics/game optimizations so DX11 doesn't run like a slideslow from the 1930s compared to DX9? I'm going to be really pissed if I fly in here after all this time and a 4760K overclocked to 4.5GHz, 16GB of 1866MHz DDR3, and a GTX 980 overclocked to 1.4GHz on the boost and 7.7GHz on the memory cant put out.

Edit: I haven't expected much since about October of 2013 - so I'm sure this will be refreshing and disappointing at the same time.

nothing has changed, quirks are used to attempt to solve every issue.

credit where credit is due though as there has been some fps improvements

I'm running the game on a 3 year old asus gaming laptop, and the graphics have never been a slideshow.

Probably because you've never tried to play hi-res or with decent looking settings. I was running 1080p before on a 680 max settings and when they added DX11 in my fps dropped 50% to mid 30s average. Now I'm at 3440x1440 and will be very upset if a game this bad looking with the visuals can't be handled. It's CryEngine ffs, I can enable DSR on Crysis 3 to play at a 4k-ish ultrawide resolution and still get mid 40's whilst using less VRAM and processing power.

Also, have they really not added any new maps since a year ago or are they just bad at updating their pages?

IMO its getting better but at a slow pace.

Meta is a little more varied.
Lazor vomit
Lazor + gauss
Lazor + SRM
Clans juts had an AC tweak so meta may shift a bit but its still Lazor + something

IS has the variety.
Grid Iron is Gauss machine gun.
SRM Brawling is a thing.
Locusts can be powerfull in a Pug.
JJ are still meh, poor Hoverlander/Summoner.
Poptarting is sorta viable on a select few variants but isnt all that. Clan ERPPC is too hot to dual, PPCs in general are too slow.

LRM+ECM isnt much of a thing anymore.
IS and Clan are getting much ECM and several Clan robots have Active probes hardwired in. IS has an ECM heavy.
It seems about 'decent', not much QQ over it.

LRMs are still, meh. But just in and of themselves. Events+newbs= ineffective LRM rainstorms and newbs running from them but its hard to make LRM work vs decent opponents unless a group drop is geared for it.

New Clan mechs, Ebon Jag, Arctic Cheeter, Shadow Cat look good. Executioner is still out on the jury with the MASC.
Clans is still all about the Timby, Scro, Hellbie, Dire.
IS has more variety but Thuds, Stalkers, FS, and a few mediums rule the roost.

I swear some of you have never played a modern video game before. So you complain about this and that, the "meta"... what type of game like this where things have balancing issues that people figure out what does the best dps and that becomes the norm "meta" for others to use and most use it. All games of this type do this....ALL OF THEM!!!

This is nothing new in the gaming community but many out there put their pampers on and cry a river of tears over it. The IS cries about the Clans still being overpowered and the Clans ***** and moan about IS in the same manner.

In a nut shell this is all forums:
"CW sucks! I refuse to play CW now until they fix it!"
"I am tired of getting stomped by 12 mans so I am gonna uninstall!"
"Not enough maps, PGI sucks and I am gonna uninstall!"
The graphics are horrible and my system can't handle the changes PGI did...gonna uninstall!"
"Clans are over powered, they need more nerfs!"
"IS has too many quirks, nerf them all!"
I could go on and on but you get the point.

I know I am gonna get flamed by someone or multiple someones for this post but I really don't care at this point because most of the people crying on the forums everyday are the bad players or trolls that just want a game where they can win all the time and not face competitive players or refuse to join a unit cuz, "they are solo players" well guess what people this is a MMO after all.

Most of the complaints peeps cry about about can be fixed on their end but they just would rather sit and cry in their world of drama and huggies. You people from this "Everyone gets a trophy" generation makes me sick, you think you all are so entitled to EVERYTHING...get over yourself, if you died tomorrow the world would get all without you just fine.

As for the people always complaining about their computers not handling the game graphics...update yo ***** or shut the hell up. I have never had issues with this game and I know a lot of people in the unit I p[lay in that don't have issues as well and those that do all have to get better upgrades or a new system. Before you get all bent out of shape...let me guess you have a top of the line system that can handle space missions and whatnot...well if you do something is not right on YOUR end.

I know there are things that the game needs to fix but not to the point where I am going to threaten to uninstall every post and than get on the forums everyday to cry about it. If you are going to uninstall, do it and than leave.

I run my game on absolute lowest graphics settings, and I'm lucky if I get 20Fps, I don't blame PGI, because I'm playing MWO on a potato. I know I need to upgrade my system.

That's just it, my system was and especially now is more than capable of handling the new API...I can't help it if their coding is the equivalent of putting a large meatstick in your mouth. Sorry I expect quality. Also...no...just stop. If this is an "MMO" then every bloody game you play online is an MMO - and that simply isn't the case. OMG more than 4 people that means Smash Bros is an MMO. Get out of here with that horseradish.

If I work on something for 3 days much less 3 years my work is expected to be good enough in quality for that equipment which is running 24/7/365 to last until the next shutdown of my plant, sometimes 3 shutdowns because maintenance costs $$, which is about once every 2 years. With 3 years I expect certain things like consistent hitboxes, reasonable game pacing, reasonable balance, and a decently coded and executed script. It definitely was a mistake relaunching this (who uninstalls these days - storage is cheap) and playing the past 15 matches has proven nothing has changed from one year or even two years ago.

I suppose I shouldn't expect a turnaround so quickly given the new management change from last year, but then again, if you let yourselves be pushed around like slaves to a parent company I should expect no actual passion and effort remains.

These are all fair points. I concede that I may simply be blessed with a relatively problem free video card and processor. nVidia 680M 3gb. I've never played the game on a different set-up, and the only thing I've changed is that I switched to an SSD main drive about 18 months ago.

Oh my God, would you stop with your inane whining and incessant drivel? Either play the game, and learn to adapt to it, or uninstall and spare us this childish diatribe. NO ONE CARES if you uninstall or not.

Stop whining, and either play the game, or don't. The worst part is that this is a self fulfilling prophecy. You leave for a long long time, come back, don't even try to play the game. Argue archaic points. Maybe play a couple of drops. Get stomped in the face, whine some more about some other useless point. Then either threaten to uninstall, or uninstall.

You provided no viable feedback on anything other than "my rig should be running this game better", and even then, barely.

I don't mind threads where people complain, even if their points aren't valid. I LOATHE threads where people whine about whatever, and provide nothing useful.

I don't think I've ever been this harsh on someone in the forums before, but you really deserve it. Did you even play the game for more than 6 hours? Even your posts show it.

When you stopped playing, SRMs were dealing zilch for damage, because you had to always chain fire them, and still lose half the salvo. The Buckton fix helped with that immensely. When you left we had only three to four viable VARIANTS. Now we have a meta that has almost a dozen mechs in tier 1, more in tier 2, and even more in tier 3.

When you left, the clans were JUST getting introduced into the game, and now the clans are on their third wave.

The game has been it's most balanced since Closed Beta ended, so what on earth are you whining about?
