You really should have read the comments, the novel you use was already covered, it's a one off that's only used as a plot device, NO other times does Stackpole have that limitation on Gauss weapons on Mechs firing multiples of them, nor does the lore/canon/fluff or rules follow that 1 specific instance in that one specific novel. It's a Stackpole thing, he does it a lot, realizes he put a main character in a situation where death is the ONLY possible outcome and that can't happen, SO...PLOT DEVICE! Nice try though!

Next time, read the posts.

But... there were a LOT of posts, and they were long XD I just chimed in to throw my two bits.

Besides, it has ever so slightly more legitimacy than the charge mechanic, which exists absolutely nowhere :P Either way, I would consider it a viable trade of nerfs, but I absolutely oppose ANY further nerfs to the Gauss as-is. If it's going to be nerfed somewhere else, something currently nerfed HAS to come off. Being able to only fire one gauss at a time, without the charge mechanism, and being unable to fire PPCs at the same time eliminates all complaints about the old meta. While giving those who hate the gauss charge a bone. I think it would be a much better balance than the current system. Even though I am quite well adapted to the current charge, and load gauss on almost every mech I don't load autocannons on. I just like ballistics.

@OP:

Or, griefers could just quit whining already and recognize that the weapon is pretty well balanced at the moment.

It doesn't need any more nerfs and could actually use a minor buff or two.

I've actually grown to like the charge mechanic, it saves a LOT of ammo on what would otherwise be bad shots that just waste ammo.

The weapon is fine, there's no need to nerf it further than it has been already. 4hp, extremely high chance of straight up exploding whenever it's hit, heavy, takes up lots of space and is slow to recharge plus you've got the charge up time which isn't included IN the recharge time. Good trade offs for 15 damage in a single location, 0 heat and long range capability.

It's not a good weapon for brawling, charge up makes that very difficult at best, impossible for most people, and that means hitting anything up close, within 100m, which well OUTSIDE the min range the weapon has in TT, very hard for those of who use the weapon a LOT and impossible for anyone who doesn't use it a lot.
