I'd like to propose a new badge. A badge for those who got into closed beta, not from buying into a package (like I did), but who submitted the email/form/whatever for consideration and was allowed in by PGI based on their own merit.

Let me clarify that I would not get this badge. I am not asking for myself. I bought the Legendary Founders pack and thus was given access to closed beta.

Thanks.

I wouldn't object to Closed and Open Beta badges. I'd qualify for an Open Beta, but I wouldn't pull my Phoenix Overlord for it.

Would be cool, especially for those of us who've been playing since the beginning but for whatever reason did not buy a package and got lucky.

But to be fair these are players who did NOT help make this game come into being. They simply played the already paid for product by founders and for whatever reason were given a beta key. Thus it can be assumed they weren't as die hard of fans as those who are founders. At least from a monetary standpoint.

How many of those guys do you still think are around today if most of the founders themselves have already moved on?

The number of people involved in this are people hand picked by PGI and thus the number can't have been that large to begin with, let alone what are still around today. Put simply, I don't think there are enough players that fit this criteria to justify making a badge just for us.

Better idea is to just simply give a badge for all the people in closed beta, "The Forerunner" or "The Precursor" or something so people know you've been here since the beginning. Could also be looked at for open beta too as that will get a lot more players a cool badge.

Regardless though, every badge currently given for no effort is because of a significant monetary contribution to the game. I don't see PGI breaking this trend anytime soon and thus won't cross my fingers for anything like this to come in the near future.

Hey that's me!

Well, maybe... I signed up probably on one of the first days that you could choose a pilot name. I can't remember if there was an "alpha" version but if there was I probably played that too... I didn't buy a founder's pack though.

I could have sworn I was playing CB before the Founders packs were offered. Maybe I just didn't buy one until later. So long ago, I can't even recall any more.

yea I'm trying to remember what the deal was. I know I played this game from Day 1 but I can't remember if that was closed beta.. or some alpha build or something. Must have been.. late 2011? early 2012? My goldfish-esque memory can't figure it out, lol

But, I was let into closed beta because I was at gencon 2012 (to play battletech, and legend of the 5 rings) and got a code from IGP.. does that count?

Sounds about right... I remember playing a bunch then taking a break until I moved (late 2012), cause my laptop at the time was getting brought to it's knees...

Technically, this game cost me about $1400 initially since that only reason I bought a new computer is to play this, lol!! I should get some kinda ultra founder package for that :P

I still feel like it was 2011 when I was playing this though...

So long ago I'm afraid I can't help much with what happened before closed beta but I know for a fact that closed beta was sometime in early summer 2012. And then October 2012 (maybe late September?) was when open beta was started.

LRMs had a 3 second lock on time which was immediately reduced to 1 not far into early CB. Imagine the whine if it was still 3. Lolol

So I recalled correctly, even if only by a couple weeks.

What exactly are we rewarding? Is this one of those participation badges you get just for showing up?
This must be a generation-gap thing.

At this point? Longevity.

At some point, your own birthday stops impressing you. (I know I didn't celebrate my last birthday, and I was pretty ok with that.) At some point later on, surviving another year becomes an accomplishment. (Honestly, with my diet, if I hit 67 it will be further proof that the universe enjoys my suffering too much to let me die.)

"Bring me your forgotten, your meek, your poor, your lazy..." :P

As much as I'd love a badge, it was my choice to spend money on beer instead of a Founder's tag. It is a pretty big regret (as things go), but such is life.

Sounds fine. :)

Non Founder Closed Beta members did or at least could have helped playtest. So they did contribute, just not in $ terms.

At worst, gave bodies for founders to shoot at. :) Which is important too.

(I actually got in with a beta code, then after a few hours bought a Founders pack.)

Badges or titles in game mean nowt.As a long time time player of a game called Star Wars Galaxies I unlocked Jedi long before it became a 1 click choice as a profession.Took months to unlock and then months to grind out a full template.
Then to compete with WOW they had a brain fart and decided to get rid of 30 odd different classes, design a new ******** combat system and make Jedi a starting class.
So what did I get for my 2 years of playing and months of grinding for Jedi?A ******* badge/title and a crystal lol. That time spent was totally worth that title.....not.
