Lets face it, many players aren't happy with the state of Jump Jets atm (especially class 1 and 2). However, PGI is deathly afraid of "Poptart II" and doesn't want to change the current acceleration of jump jets.
So I put forth a compromise, change the burn time.
Have bigger jump jets burn longer. For example:
Class 1 - 2x current burn time
Class 2 - 1.75x current burn time
Class 3 - 1.5x current burn time
Class 4 - 1.25x current burn time
Class 5 - No change (lets face it, they are fine as is).
While I understand the nearly morbid fear PGI has of Highlanders and Executioners actually being able to jump quickly, the fact is that currently they can hardly even jump at all, even equipping maximum jump jets. This compromise should not create "Poptart II" as the mechs won't rise quickly, but will eventually be able to reach points like the canyon walls in River Canyon, or the citadel in River City. So at least consider it PGI, lets see if we can make this added weight actually worth something. (Then introduce real collision damage (not knockdowns) and let DFA become an option ).

Main problem with heavy and assault JJs is the fuel recharge time is so long that you cannot maintain DPS as you should in such a mech.
It's not even necessarily a heat issue or anything, it's really about how are you supposed to be putting out 30 damage alphas constantly, when it takes 5-10 secs to replenish fuel. The Stalker standing next to you, creeping 5 meters to crest and then back down again, is waaaaaaaaaaay ahead of you in DPS after a minute or two.
Poptarting was and is always about putting a gap between your damage output, and your damage taken. But at some point if the damage output is so low it's sort of moot - theres 23 other people constantly going pewpew while you wait for fuel every 10 secs.
That's issue for big poptarts atm.
This is why I poptart in Nova and Griffin and think they are the best for it, cuz their refueling allows for mobile action without downtime or for proper consistent damage output in between jumps that are only ~3-5 sec waits in between tarts instead of 10.

think longer burn time was a given since they nerfed the jets. a descending burn rate might not be a fair choice, but we wouldn't really know unless it was implemented. I'm just wondering if will ever see jump jets in their original default operating state or come anywhere close to that!

Couldn't they just (greatly?) increase cockpit shake?

As I said before, just scale the burn time with number of jets, and the motive force stays constant.

I would be happy just to have the old thrust back. Let the screen shake, heat nerf, fall damage, etc. all remain; just give me back my thrust! I want to leap into the air, not levitate...
