I'm wondering whether it's necessary to take the JJs with this mech or drop them in favour of another two heat sinks to support my 4 Large Pulse Lasers, what do you think?

From my experience, JJs are kind of bad on Heavy mechs anyway.
I don't use them personally and those 2 heatsinks might as well make a difference.

4 large pulse sounds a little overboard to me. If you're going to do that, then you will probably need the extra DHS. I would probably drop one for the JJ and maybe some MLs. Maneuverability is better than the extra damage imo.
Looking at smurfy, in order to keep 4xLPL properly cooled you would either need to lower the engine rating or go XL. If you go XL in a TDR then you are doing it wrong. Sacrificing engine rating also seems like a bad idea (again with my love of maneuverability).

Atm I have a standard 280 in it. I can alpha strike the lasers which brings the heat above 50% usually, if I chain them though I can get two to three rotations before the heat gets a bit to much.

Deimos, would you mind posting a Smurfy link for your build?
The best I have been able to work up with 4LPL is using a STD 250 and 13 DHS. I would love to see what I missed.
Here is what I got: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d8f034d143ae8c3
Thank you.

I was running this, not much different to yours, I dropped some armour in places, it did run hot but you have to make use of chain firing more:

I've slightly altered it a little since and dropped one Laser and added a lrm 10 with 2 tons of ammo, not because the last build didn't work, I just fancied adding a bit of long range contribution to help lay down some fire as I try to get into a better position. It also lets me use the right torso completely as a shield. It does have the whole eggs in one basket issue so got to be sure to defend the left torso. I'd love to use the arms more but they get blasted off so often due to defending the torso so I gave up and stuck them all on the left torso.
