I'm sure they would sell a ton of mech packages if they were bland, boring and didn't stand out as being in some way stronger than their counterparts. There is financial motivation to make these things OP and worry about balance issues later. Raise your hand if you think the new clan light coming out (at a bare minimum) will get hit with the nerf hammer 6 months after it's release...or roughly...a few weeks after it's available for C-bills. Fox is guarding the hen house people...

Sometimes their timing can be a bit convenient or sketchy? But nerfing and buffing. Are both a part of online competitive games. The only difference is that this is a free to play game. When WoW does it. People cry. But since they're not selling the individual classes to players. It's not seen as "bait and switch" tactics. It's just balancing.
