near impossible suggestion but an actual salvage system from MW4 put alongside it's damage repair system.
Say ( depending on how damaged it is after a fight) 30-70% of cbills rewarded go to auto repair the mech and if your team wins you get salvage rolls based on the number of kills / components destroyed ( and possibly the chance to refuse weaponry as it then rolls down in terms of damage). Maybe even use it as like a trophy system that gets you temporary cash / salvage / rep bonuses for completing a set / historical collection of mechs.
Trial mechs would cost a flat 50% fee that goes to Joe the used mech salesman but he repairs them for free no matter the cost.

We had that. Along with proper model movement (legs would be bent, and accommodate the terrain they are on), we also had proper damage models. Those were toned down to help people like me who run the game on potatoes to play.
