Imagine the rant when MWO hits Steam and new players judge the game, we could have something like this:

Though I doubt it since not many people gives a single f*** about the Mechwarrior Universe.
tl;dr Arkham Knight was released as broken/unpolished game and the world erupted. The PC version was pulled of the shelves, hopefully MWO will get polished for the time of a Steam Release.

Not to mention the new profit model is sell half of the game at the regular price then release the rest of it as DLCs so they end up doubling the price without anyone noticing. Kind of like how the price of granola bars is roughly the same as a couple of years ago but the box contains 6 instead of 8.

I'm interested to see how many new players we will get, though...

Never liked skill tree based FPS--MWO included (though MWO's skill tree is far more pathetic). I personally like Insurgency much more, as a fresh FPS.

Now if MWO had something like +2.4% more XP/C-bills per member when fighting as a unit then we might see more of them around.

DB, despite being a fun game to play, the progression is PURE P2W.

What skill tree? There is no skill tree in Dirty Bomb.

Except anything above Bronze is essentially Bronze with a rarer skin. And P2W implies game-breaking features that can only be bought with cash or the grind is so insane that you might as well buy it to save yourself the trouble.
Dirty Bomb isn't that. Ironically, Aura and Skyhammer, the two mercs you start out with, are considered the most powerful mercs in the game as of now.

Should it hit Steam the forums and the net will be full of bad reviews of the game and the forum would burn and drown in tears.
PGI has to do very much work to get this game up to the level where a release on Steam won't be suicide.

There is. As in player customization slots.
I think I may be misinterpreting your words here, but the only customisation I see are the three mercs you bring into each round and the fixed loadout cards each merc has.

Also, best to reinterate. Angryjoe didn't do his research and merely rage at inaccurate second-hand information since those paid cases are really just skins for Bronze Loadout Cards, which gives all the best perks and can be easily acquired via in-game cash or trading up lower-tier Loadout cards.
In other words, Silver and above Loadout cards add NOTHING to Dirty Bomb outside of cosmetic differences.

You know who these guys are? These are some of the more famous Youtubers who specialises in FPS games, and while they have a few gripes with Dirty Bomb, they pretty much praise the game as a whole.
In other words, cross-reference is a thing.

And yet it will still happen, because it's a good plan as it'll open the game up to more people and help spread the word of the game. It'll also give the old guard a "target rich environment" for a while, a new player experience, some general tidy up of the game, and hopefully some signup goodies.
So unless you have some weird ethic whereby you must ditch any game that goes below a metascore, even if you actually like the game, or you start to cry if someone who you are never going to meet says they don't like the thing you like then I'm really not sure what all the worry is about.

I really think that when MWO releases we wont see riots and mass negative ratings, not that it really matters. There are plenty of games with atrocious ratings with many people playing and buying into.
But yeh, MWO isn't 'broken', it works - and if they get the map remakes out before steam release I think it will be fine, those remakes are going to be the biggest improvement to this game since the beginning. The first few weeks are going to be difficult (for the servers, PGI should probably purchase more temporary servers for the player influx) and that might reflect badly on new players, but in the end it will balance out I think.
They should probably remove the 3 mech grind before the release though, new players should be able to master their first mech at least without having to grind 3. (I'de prefer a total re-write of the system, it's pooh tbh).
