This thread tells me that Alex Iglesias can produce far more interesting designs if not obligated to make 2D concept arts from existing TRO drawings.

EDIT: Just look at the Omen and Night Wolf! Alex knows where to place the guns and cockpits!

Well, the Gunslinger has already been mentioned. Other than that, the ones I like the most are sadly probably not very popular, and/or we'll just plain never be able to see.

Gun:
This thing is a tiny little Argus-like Fire Support Light mech that runs around with a Plasma Rifle. What's not to love? Also, the design already has the "feel" of an MWO mech. Sadly, it probably wouldn't translate to MWO well because of the fact that it's a 20 ton omnimech running under 100kph. Maybe if it was unlocked as just a standard Battlemech w/o Omnipods? I could live with that.

It already has. If you look closely, it's basically the MWO Locust. Weapons are different, obviously, but the design is pretty much the same.

Since it is nearly a century until most of them will be designed I don't think we can hope for any of them happening soon.

First off, let's face it, barring a miracle, MW:Os servers will have been shut down a long time before we are likely to get to Fortress Republic. So this is mostly a "blue sky", if only, post.

Secondly, I am an admitted 3025, Succession War guy, who prefers to pretend anything post FedCom Civil War didn't happen (and even a lot of that era was .....meh), despite having been a MW:DA Event Ref.

That said, powercreep and all, there were some designs, some technologies that were pretty cool. Actually the TRO 3145 is very interesting, IMO.

For me? Hands down it's the LAMENT.

What do you get if you blend the DNA of a Black Knight, Warhammer and Thunderbolt (and maybe a dash of Thanatos), fertilize it was the best tech available?

This baby:

The basic model is simple but vicious. But the 3C and 4RC? Oh baby. Made a TT "Lament IIC"
drop the xl gyro and Radical Heatsink System for Clan Endo and Ferro, XL325, 3 clan tech erppcs, 23 DHS, ECM and IS TSM. Has to disable a few DHS or run and alpha several turns in a row to engage the TSM, but at that point it's a 97 kph clan tech AWS-9M, with ECM.

My runner up? The perfect assault mech:

There is no dark age. Battletech stopped after the invasion.

Radical Heatsink System on the Lament.

Implementation is like a reusable childhood.
It's supposed to double your cooling for a turn, which may be hard to emulate in real time.

But one could have it act like a coolshot9x9, with a 10 second confirm. Cool down.
Stacking RNG starting at 8% of failure each use, which means no cooling. Use it within 20 seconds, RNG doubles, and doubles again. If it fails. Can't be used for a minute.
If one waits 20 seconds after use RNG resets. Maybe give it a two stage cooldown bar, for "ready", and "safe"

As far as crits, if it gets hit, it explodes like a gauss.

Mind you the numbers are just placeholder starting points.

I thought Battle tech started to go down hill at the clan invasion, that's when the game became broken, I honestly thought i'd be out of here when the clans arrived, but thankfully PGI have done a reasonable job of balancing.

I will go with the Lament, though I haven't any TRO's since the original print, to compare.

But that's only because it is a Warhammer in all but name, and one PPC, distinct likeness and all that

I would go with the Cave Lion.

Shoulder-mounted Clan ER PPCs, Clan Medium Pulses as backup, Angel ECM suite taking care of those NARCs and C3 networks and the best thing ... Clan Glazed armor.

Yeah, there's certainly similarities, I'm not denying that. However there is still a fair bit of difference. Also, there's no Plasma Rifles; and that's probably the most important part.

It's already been mentioned, but the Gunsmith. Fast enough to cross entire map sheets in a turn and X-Pulse lasers so it actually has a chance at hitting something after flanking around behind it. A little hot maybe (it seems like it would be a better mech with either normal pulse lasers or just two VSP's), but it eats rear armor for breakfast.

I might say the Lu Wei Bing, but Alex basically gave us that (visually anyway) with the Victor. Kinda like how the Stalker in this game looks a whole lot like the Stalker II from the Marik 3145 TRO. Being a fan of the Hunchback, you would think the Quasimodo might 'do it' for me, but it doesn't really. It's not bad, but if you are going to make an omni version of the hunchback, then it damn-well better have a big gun in the right torso as the primary loadout, not a couple lasers. Also the whole Blue Shield thing was stupid.
