i thought it might b an idea to include a player ranking system based on the players personal stats. A+ down to F-
im fairly sure id rank in the C or maybe even D rating class, but people who are true aces in this game would get an A+ (Or S rank if u want to go up that high)

The reason i think this would b a good idea, is that people are more likely to listen to orders being given by an ace, than a random average pilot like me. A ranking system would make it clearer to the rest of the team who the good players are.

That said, just because they are high damage dealers doesnt mean they CAN lead, but it would point out the guys who will need to be supported, and potential commanders can use the ratings to try and get the most out of their team. IE putting the mid range guys in support of the heavy hitters, or asking the aces to blunt a charge while the rookies try to flank etc.

What do people think? yay or nay?

Nay. This could lead to more kill greediness and selfish behavior. Nay.

true... some will be greedy for their K/D ratios. however those people will still be greedy regardless. and it could be implemented that ur teamwork is also reflected in ur stats so that its not ONLY ur K/D ratio that is counted

Nay! It's just another way for someone to wave his ePeen over other people.

There is a very good reason why stats are private and not public.

Statwhoring is real, look at WoT.
It is better this way, to keep it private. Frankly I always though that stats should be either implemented and fully visible (=> fully competetive game) or not implemented at all, replaced by achievement system. What we have right now is rather demotivating since it lacks benefits of either system but that is discussion for another time/topic.

MWO has a nice community that works well together. Lets not give us tools to break this :)

I have terrible KDR because I yolo farm with trial light at pubs for quick grinds.

Leave this ELO/MMR thing to Dota2, LoL and other MOBA's and just concentrate on improving personal skills and teamplay. ELO system will just discriminate others. and isn't it unfair that you some players will get judged by their KDR and ELO rating when they're actually good in accomplishing the objective (killing gens and omega) instead of grinding for kills.

And so far I haven't seen anyone whining KS (kill stealing) in MWO. These KS whiners are very rampant in MOBA and FPS that sometimes it will cost you the match even though your team is winning.

fair enough guys i see ur points. kill whoring is bad, i know.

how could it be made into a system not based only on K/D ratios for ur overall rating? like for example, going by your overall accuracy with your most used weapons, or by including kill assists or by your driving skill (lance/team proximity, ducking behind cover, NOT crashing into your teammates) of course this assumes there is a way to quantify these skills, but i'm sure there would be a way to make it skill based, rather than simple K/D ratios. and kill whoring probably does still happen in this game, but people care less because they still get the points. often just as much as the guy getting the killing blow, if not more.

In fact if i recall correctly, most of the previous mech games had similar ratings for the pilots you could hire. i think it went on accuracy, blind-firing, piloting, and sensor skills. not sure how those would be implemented to human players, but you get the idea.

Edit: or including objective points so that those who are better at completing objectives arent penalized.

Dunno if Elo is that good an indicator until they split group and solo and do the solo Elo wipe. But they should have it optionally public anyway.

Bads and new players can have theirs hidden like it is now and pretend to still be good if they want. And then people can just see Elo of good players if they made it visible.

But there isn't any point until Elo gets queue split.

The only objective, especially now since they changed the gens, is killing the other team fast enough. Even in conquest that's the main objective> on most maps 9/10 games in conquest goes to kills. That means if someone is playing cap game they are hurting the team the majority of the time.

League's ELO system works fine as proven by their overall success. Factoring objectives towards an ELO rating would not be difficult. Suiciding trial lights is poor behavior that ruins other people's rounds and a rankings system would rectify this.

I find the match score to be pretty representative to the actual work you did in the match. Just saying.

Bad players have a vested interest in not wanting everyone to know how bad they are. They go QQ when their badness is laid bare and people bring it up.

I would like to see something like a good player system or good sportsmanship system...

Say you play with a person and really enjoyed their attitude/game play/ or they just were fun to play with where as a player once per say you can give that person a check/mark/etc for being such a pleasure to play with, when that player say gets 30 or so from different players then they get a paint job thats unique, or something cool for being a great player.

To stop abuse from clans or friends giving out checkmarks make it so no one that's in your unit or friends list can give you a check mark or what ever to you.. The game already has some great players and so many times I want to give props to a player for doing what he did or just for being a cool guy or gal and there is nothing to do that with...

Just a thought.. as for the original post I agree with some it would make people very greedy and pissed off when you get a kill from a stray shot or just creates more animosity with players because of it... with my system of good sports or just good gameplay you don't get a check mark for being a ASS...

Just some thoughts

true. however that doesnt help a commander identify the skill level of the players hes playing with, nor does it identify people who are worth listening to, at the start of the match

yeah this sort of system would be good, if it marked said player in some way to notify the rest of the team that this person is a team player. to expand on it, prehaps you could give them marks for being a good shot, or giving good orders at the right time, or for great driving skill etc. then youd get a a title like, commander, if u get a lot of command bumps, or ace shot if u get a lot of shot bumps etc

I like your idea.. just to stop abuse you have to make it so only one person can give out the check mark to one person a day and can only be used once per person...

yeah triskin 1 mark per player per skill cat. give everyone X marks per day (1 per skill cat) to give to those who have impressed them in whatever way.
and perhaps a negative mark to give to those players who are just all round *******. Ie, abusive, tkers, or those guys who get off on legging ppl before you even meet the red team, and so on. (not sure on this one, coz im sure some will doll out neg marks just to annoy ppl or just coz they didnt like them)

The only thing about a negative mark it's used something as revenge or something stupid like that.. that can be abused as seen in world of tanks you can give 10 marks per day to bad people.. and well somethings its used by whole clans so if a clan of 200 members dont like someone then that person gets 2000 bad marks (10 per person)..

You want to foster positive more than negative as you can witness in World of tanks.I think one mark per person per day and can only give it once to that person and no one in your friends list would be a good system but I dont think PGI is on its toes as they cant get simple things right or just implement them in game, but that's another post for another time..

Just some idea's

The only thing about a player that I want to know is whether the player is a "Teamplayer" or not.

yeah fair points it was just a thought. there are many other things that need PGIs attention before anything like this could be implemented.
and yeah forget about negative marks completely, it was a bad idea

yeah im sure there would be a way to mark a player as a team player. perhaps give points to a player who goes to objective markers? as long as ur within say 200m of and order marker u get points same as lance proximity

I would have to say that any player who has a high win/loss ratio in a solo queue actually would be much better than someone with a crap one (if you win/lose consistently, then you can only look at the one thing in common all your games have...). Ergo, a ranking system based on wins vs losses would be a very nice measure of overall skill.
