Are you kidding me? DOA?

Each of those chassis are magnitudes better than their InnerSphere counterparts.

Well, the hunchback isn't magnitudes better given quirks, but yeah; the Jenner? The Highlander? They're flat out huge upgrades.

The Orion... Harder to say. I don't really know Orions, but they are pretty heavily quirked. Still, nobody seems to use them... Bad because hitboxes? If bad because of hitboxes, that'll likely remain the same.

The issue with Onion hitboxes was, IIRC, that it was somewhat easy to pick whichever part you wanted to hit. Thus, if you wanted to sidecore it, you could do so without really putting much thought into it. Or you could CT core it similarly. This made IS XL engines a very risky bet, while still making the IS STD engine not a total guarantee of your survival.

The Clan XL means you get the best of both worlds, all the weight and speed of the XL while still being able to sacrifice whichever ST you don't need. I don't expect it to beat the TBR/HBR/EBJ, but I expect it to put up a good fight and beat most IS heavies.

Combination of hitboxes plus the utlization of heavy ballistics, makes bringing other things difficult. Combine with the fragility of IS XL engines and its pretty meh.

The Orion IIC will be better than its IS ancestor, at the very least because of CXLs

Fair enough, even with somewhat poor hitboxes the cXL would be a mitigating factor there.

Of course they are DOA, what do you expect from the only creatures in the entire universe to fail at something as basic as reproduction.

I feel like I have to explain this joke, because it works on two levels, and maybe it is just going over your heads. The clan can’t reproduce superior IS mechs, and the clans can’t biologically reproduce, they use test tubes.

That’s alright, hold your applause, I don’t want the pity laughs, or the glazed-over “oh I get it now” response. Just go on with your lives, and watch out for sharp objects.

Three levels, sort of. They're Mechs that (in lore) don't have variants... no siblings/offspring.

The problem isn't the free tonnage, that part is great, the problem is the ****** hard points they both have.
All over the place and no variant truly focuses 1 type of weapon.

Well, that's how it is for IS Orion and Highlander. Can't boat. I kinda hoped that the HGN-IIC could be the meta king once again but I'm somewhat glad that PGI just give them practically the same hardpoints as the IS versions, which means that the powercreep is kept at minimal.

Well, they will s*hit all over their IS counterparts if PGI doesn't rebalance them in some way.
So they probably won't be "deader" than the Orion and Highlander already are. If that is even possible.

Maybe do not make a build that focuses on 1 type of weapon? Becuase ya know, there is a reason there is more then 1 type of weapon in game... This isn't robocraft ya know.

You're making the assumption that there are only two types of mechs:
-IS Mechs
-Clan Mechs

This assumption is wrong. There are actually FOUR types of mechs:
-IS Battlemechs
-IS Omnimechs
-Clan Battlemechs
-Clan Omnimechs

Right now, we have IS Battlemechs and Clan Omnimechs. The Origins IIC pack contains our first Clan Battlemechs.

Phranken mechs?

Also... orion IIC DoA? only mech to be able to put duel Gauss rifles in 1 side torso...

I'm exited how they will explain the absence of quirks on the 2c mechs. As they are just an evolved version of inner sphere tech they should logically inherit the quirks of their is counterparts.

they are not bad, not optimal and certainly nothing you would carry to a serious match but good for the collectors and the fanbois

they are not DOA tho, they are just not something anyone but the rich or the desperate would field

Theyre not evolved versions or retrofits or anything like that.

Theyre complete rebuilds of the mechs. The jenner didnt even exist before kerenksy left the inner sphere. The clans had no idea WTF a jenner was until they stole the technical specifications and built their own version of it (my guess is they didnt have any good lights and stole the jenner plans to finally have a good light mech).

So it makes sense they wouldnt have quirks. Because they werent built in the same factories as the original mechs. They were built at the clan factories and clan factories dont have comstar wizards that can add quirk enchantments to mechs.

Well, that's the price of having fully opened up Battlemech customization.

Even then, you can still get by if you try to build around it... You can for example use Gauss in the Highlander's RA, and put 3 Clan LPL in the LT, with 12 extra DHS to keep them pretty cool (53% heat efficiency in Smurfy terms). Not exactly sword-and-board hardpoints but still viable.

The Onion IIC 4th variant can do 2 Gauss in the RT and have a Clan MPL in each arm, but that might be sorta fragile.
$35 To have a Orion IIC $55 to have a Ebon Jag. I'm not sure I am following the reason the 2nd line Mech is that much cheaper... But I will take my Orion IIC and be happy!

OMFG. They were literally just put up for sale within the last what, 2 hours or so, and they aren't going to be released until freaking December.

Some people on these forums, I swear.

My feeling is this player is also the person who comments "First!!" in a lot of article or video comments. Just a hunch.

Kind of funny how when someone says "The new mechs are going to be amazing!" a lot of people join in and there is much rejoicing. But when someone says "The new mechs are going to be terrible!" a lot of people reply "How do you know that? There's no evidence, it's too early to say! Boo this man!"

I understand that people are tired of negative posts, this was just my philosophical raptor for the day.

By the way, you TT shamans out there, is the Clan STD engine a carbon copy of a Inner Sphere STD engine? So there's no sane reason for keeping a STD engine in any IIC mech until PGI heavily nerfs the Clan XLs?

Yup Standard engines are Universally standard. Unless PGI decides to make a quirk difference.
