2 variants actually.

The actual Mauler MAL-1R. And the Daboku (the one labelled with "MX-90". Though they renamed it.)

Oh, i know about Daboku, but i thought it was considered a "prototype" for the Mauler, because it's basically the basic mauler, just without star league tech.
But yeah.
Alright. 2/4 variants are made up.

You can build the Thugs on an Awesome, I do it when I feel like 2 PPCs and 2 SRM6.... The Thug is a cool idea, but lacks variety and probably won't add much to the game.

You never know... You could make the same loadout for many mechs, but they all have something special about them that makes them stand out

I haven't ignored it, I'd prefer to have the actual thug, as the awesome is more or less, a wall with feet.

The Thug will be similar though. If you look at the TROs, the Thug is still a wide mech. Once they get the graphics pass done on the awesome, it'll look more like the Thug too. :D Having the Thug in-game would be awesome though and I support that idea.

A wall of Awesomes can throw a lot of ordinance down range though......
