The possible origin's of why the two houses seem to hate each other? The kuritas has superior mobility, but megabot has much more powerful weapons and a much hardier frame.

Yep, but in the BT universe, the mobility of the Kuritans Japanese in that match was neutralized when the yanks 'accidentally' added a 40mm HE round to their magazine of paintballs, which was nicely balanced out by the Americans having their soundtrack of Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen switched out with classical Japanese NOH music.

Thus, a bitter rivalry was born.

lol, I can't wait for that robot fight.

Davion isn't space America. It's space England and France. Space America was the Terran Hegemony, it collapsed at the beginning of the 1st Succession War.

Actually, the Davion (originally d'Avion) family is supposed to be (originally) ethnically French, with roots traceable to Gascony and the County of Foix (and, presumably, the Counts of Foix).
One of the Davions' (very likely fictional) ancestors, one Jean-Baptiste d'Avion, is supposed to have served as a bodyguard to Mary Stuart, Queen of Scots, and been granted holdings in Scotland as a result - a point supposed to be used by some of his descendants to claim to be of Scottish rather than French heritage.
(All of the above comes from House Davion (The Federated Suns), under "Rise of the Davions".)

By contrast, the society and government of the Federated Suns is obviously modeled on that of the United Kingdom, with echoes of the British Empire.

So, yeah - FedSuns = "British Empire (IN OUTER SPACE!), ruled by Frenchmen"

That doesn't sit very well with me, historically speaking. We Brits have never been ruled by a Frenchman, not once! We just wouldn't allow it.

Of Viking descent and a ******* son of a French woman so the Brits probably don't count him.

Darn! I was Ninja'd!

I just made a post about this :(

In any case, I got to root for MegaBot MKII. That head hitbox though (makes a Catapult seem safe by comparison) :).

William the Conqueror wasn't French, he was Norman. The Norman's were a bunch of Vikings who settled in France by turning up and going "we're here, come near us again and we'll cut you!" around a hundredish years before William's invasion, mostly hanging around and being French when it suited them/saying so got them out of trouble from all the warring they had done. William The [[Illegitimate Child]] was by upbringing, language, genetics, and all heritage that counts basically Swedish, just like the bulk of his troops and commanders.

So, no. We were never invaded by the French.

The Normans did however allow a bunch of landless french aristocrats to come over and set up territories in England (specifically the ones that the Norman's didn't want because they were worthless or that they couldn't hold because the locals didn't like being invaded) as a means to pay off various debts. In return the English/British have successfully invaded France every single century since. Quite possibly because once a Frenchman went "ha! Vous avez été envahie par les français" to an Englishman.

Consider that fair warning....

Basically the British are a bit sore on the whole subject and to get their revenge, they were probably pretty persuasive in having Normandy be the site of the D-Day invasion in WWII. :).
