Then we can get rid of the current system and especially eliminate speed tweak. I mean 3-4 tons of free speed? Sort of made sense early on, but now? Not so much.

I would like to see smaller accomplishments added, to try and breakup the current grind focus (stop laughing, a man can dream!) Things like "have a victory on each map in each game mode", or "own X mechs", or "win in X trial mechs", "win conquest by 500points" or similar. Not massive rewards, because that isn't the point, but a mix of "been around the block" things that would give you a bit of fun between the major steps of awards and possibly inject a bit more variety into game play.

I agree. The new achievements could be entirely minor or even humourous things, and the rewards could be pretty insignificant. Achievements are fun and add a little spice to the grind.

I think that's half the problem with the current set-up: all the achievement's have rewards, rather than the achievement being the reward in and of itself.
You also have no way of showing off your achievements, which I think is a shame.

There are titles that you can show off in game as well as in your forum profile.

My boy plays this one, and it amuses me so I watch him some times. "XP" and "level up" and "achiements" are all the same system there, and basically the goals are this looooong list of things to do in a match, like "kill 4 zombies with xxxxxxx in one match" and the like.
Finish one, you get a small reward(game money for unlockable "packs" of random lootz from the game shop) and after 3 are completed give or take(dont rremember how many) you get a level up for that particular character class. Level ups unlock more stuff, like upgrades(minor) and visual custom things.
A system like that does tow things:
It keeps players from just having some massive list of things to try to do. Goals can be fun, but if a goal is "do 5000 kills" well, thats actually pretty boring, it's not like you will change your play or focus on something like that, you will just check the boring % completion bar occasionally and say "oh hey" when it finally fills.
It gives players something "new" to do all the time. If you only have a couple of these mini goals show at a time, the players need to alter play or focus on one aspect temporarily to complete it. Keeps things different, makes the goals not feel like some giant checklist. Keeps the goals feeling more like some kind of actual mini challenge and not some overblown kill counter.
If we had say, 3 show at a time, eligable, it would allow for a mix of easier ones and harder ones. that one hard one is something more difficult to work at while you have a couple "easy" ones you can do in between if you get frustrated at the harder one, so you have a sense of accomplishment available, and that in itself varyes based on how hard the goal is.
Rewards could be Pilot XP, could be mech XP, could be "lootz" like consumables, weapons, whatever. Tied to difficulty again.
The only thing negative that comes to mind about any of this is I am comparing a system from a game that you bought off the shelf at a store vs a FTP downloaded game. Every time some fluff system like this comes up that would flesh out MWO and make it more diverse and interesting, it feels like banging your head on the wall because the buisness model of FTP means justifying dev time on anything not core could potentially put the company in financial trouble down the road because I mean let's be honest, pretty hard to monetize an achievment system. The only thing I could see they could see would be a "skip achievment" ticket that auto completes the goal(too hard, dont like it, whatever) for MC.
A box game on the shelf NEEDS stuff like fluff systems to make it "complete" or it wont have enough to it to actually sell the game. it's like opposite sides of a coin. The only time we get fluff things is if it could be proven to draw enough new players to work out "%of new players buy MC" to cost justify the fluff over time. The longewr this game goes on, the more I think the model for the finances is holding it back.

McGral, yeah, when I see a Death Star title I wonder how that person can live with the shame.
I want my Guillotine title, not really into all the rest.
