Now is a good time for me to look into getting the Awesomes... however I promised to go get mastery for my other mechs... (3 commandoes, 2 cicadas, 1 cataphract, 1 jagermech).

Those can wait... you want Awesomes...

I think the release of clan mechs and the increase of average mech speeds that came with it had more to do with decreasing PPC effectiveness than PPC velocity did. Before clan mechs an atlas with a standard engine moving at 55 kph might be the average assault you'd encounter on a regular basis. After clan mechs there were warhawks zooming around at 70 kph that were harder targets. Before clan mechs jagermechs moving near 60-65 kph were a norm for heavies. Once timberwolves were out it wasn't long before heavies were hitting 80+ kph. The bump from 55 kph mechs to 70 kph and 60 to 90 is larger proportionately than the adjustment from 1150 velocity ppc's to 950.

I don't think an increase in PPC velocity will make much of a difference, although it will be nice and make PPC's more viable. Most probably wouldn't notice if PPC velocity were adjusted anymore than they'd notice a difference between CD and cassette tape quality sound. They would realize mechs were harder to hit. PPC velocity is one variable, but people might tend to forget the speed at which mechs can accelerate and move is on the flip side of the equation.

Mostly 3 mechs did it. SHD-2Ks, VTR-DS and CTF-3D. The TBR-C was just the straw that broke the camel's back.

I don't like how they buffed them. They gave them all a flat 150 when the ER PPC should have been buffed further to assist with longer range. I didn't even have a problem with PPCs, but they got buffed anyway.

okay okay xD

Any suggestions which 3 my first three will be?

I am looking for a mech that can do PPC's but the LRM awesome always cought my eye since CBT.
I do not mind having some M ones and do not want my first 3 to be all the same... I will buy the others when I finish up with my upgrades for my origins mechs, resistance II mechs, Wave III mechs, Cataphract, jagermech, commando, (not cicada though... he can wait)

Edit: Also this depends how the awesome will look with variable geometry...

A CDA with a PPC or two can be a lot of fun. Shoot and scoot because if you stop you're dead!

Awesome 8Q

PPC velocity = 1437.5m/s (AWESOME)

Awesome 9M

ERPPC velocity = 1500m/s (Again, AWESOME).

I'll be dusting off my Awesomes again tomorrow!*

*and likely shelving them in disgust after they're gutted with two clan alphas :)

AWS-8Q for PPCs, so the two builds I feel are best: Quad PPC AWS-8Q and the Stock+ AWS-8Q

The quad PPC one is mean for it's left/right punch and the Stock+ is a lot cooler running and the ERPPC benefits from all the PPC quirks as well so it only generates 11.25 heat and the PPCs generate 7.5 heat.

AWS-9M has quirks for ERPPCs, but I run it without regards to the PPCs are all because dat engine cap: XL 360 AWS-9M and the STD320 AWS-9M

The 8R is a beastmode LRM boat, rivaled only by the 4J:
AWS-8R, sacrificing the fourth LRM 15 allows for three ALRM15s and more ammo without needing to use an XL

And lastly, the 8V has some strong generalist quirks that make for a rather flexible Awesome:
-AWS-8V, good brawler
-AWS-8V, good brawler but a bit more generalist than the previous
-AWS-8V, LRMs and can trade the MPLs for more ammo or DHS

While this sounds awesome, can we still nerf the master of said nerfs?

It's been a while since I bothered running PPCs on unquirked mechs.

I own a lot of lights, I know the whole philosphy of "shoot and scoot" and don't stop moving. However I already got the ER PPC cicada which is nostelgic as it's my fave 40 ton mech and build specificly. and I am using the other as a medium / medium pulse spammer. My next cicada will be a UAC 5 one and I think I will use this build. CDA-3M

Note: ammo is going to be more spread and I am okay with going 133.7 kph with speed tweak, I already got a taste of slower lights from the urbie and clan and I am quite used to it, this would be fast for my fire support role for a 'light' .

real question...will the 8Q still have the same bonuses on ERPPCs as PPCs, like it does now, after the patch?

This will hurt my AC-10/PPC combo on my Firebrand but in improve it on mechs I don't care about like the Cataphract.

PPCs were accurate to 350-400 meters at 950 mps so now back to 500 meters pretty much which starts to edge laser range accuracy. So it becomes an option, ERPPCs to 600 meter accuracy. Awesome 8Q will be pretty Awesome.

Even gauss rounds are too slow some days to hit sidestepping direwolves without some lead.

Whatever happens just remember -- speed isn't everything.

Awesome 8Q is great for PPC's. It can equip 4 PPC's and still have 3 energy hardpoints for medium or short range lasers. It can spam PPC's on chainfire endlessly if one paces themselves. The only negative might be the need to focus and make a conscious effort to be certain every shot hits the same component. I don't know if PPC awesomes can be used lazily like some other builds where people spray and pray a million AC rounds with laser vomit and still collect their 1000 damage and 5 kills even if they're not paying attention. The same might be said of all PPC builds. At least with the awesome if you miss with one PPC you have three more! Spraying and praying with 4 PPC's in an awesome 8Q is about as forgiving as PPC warfare gets in this game.

I would definitely roll out in my awesome much more if I didn't have mad dogs, gargoyles and some other incoming mechs to lvl.

edit - 4 PPC build.
