My theme is if they have an expensive XL engine or expensive Modules, because otherwise looking through 150 to find them is a PITA.The advent of the "invalid" loadout tag is nice so I don't have to track mechs without engines now.

example:
MOD XL300
noMOD XL255

I name mine after King of the Hill characters. My buddy names his after Game of Thrones characters. I was curious to know what other themes or names people might go with for their mechs, and I'm bored as hell so there's that.

Davion Celtic gods
Steiner Nortic gods
Kurita Japanese Mythic spirits

I don't really play Marik and would hurt my Computer if I was Liao.

Anything using my barney camo scheme is called "Barney-XX" where XX is the name of the chassis.

Not an ongoing theme but i will name mechs based on how they seem to fit. Executioner with SRM arm and small laser arm i named Fisticuffs for the 1-2 punch. King crab with double AC20s is of course the Boom Daddy. Warhawk B with LRMs is of course LURM2PLAY. Ebon Jaguar i named MiniTimber for obvious reasons.

Ponies. I name mine after ponies.

For example:
-Vinyl Scratch: pulse boats
-Pinkie Pie: SRM/LRM or trolly builds
-Applejack: brawlers
-Rarity: Gauss and lasers
-Twilight: laser vomit
-CMC: light mechs

There are quite a few exceptions of course. Like my King Crabs being Zoidberg, my Panther being Pink Panther, and a whale named Moby ****.

Nope, I don't. The only mech I ever named was my first Cicada, whose name was Tweezer.

A friend of mine named his Firestarter "little ****." Been waiting a while for that particular nick name to become relevant. :D

I name mine by what they do.

Raven (2xERLL, ECM): Ghost - the ecm and long range lasers make it a silent killer

Commando (ERLL, ML, SML): Aggressor - its a killer, a very aggressive mech, once locked on its target is really difficult to get rid of

Spider (12xJJ, 2xMPL): Ikarus 2B - the third iteration of a flying mech, what it lacks in firepower it makes up for in unprecedented mobility, special high mobility tactics must be used to employ successfully

Hunchback (AC20, MPL): Uppercut - a quick jab with the mpl and an uppercut to knock enemies out via ac20

Dragon (AC10, 4xMPL) at 106 kp/h: Striker - it goes in, delieveres its payload and gets out, a fast striker

Hellbringer (GAUSS, ERLL, 2xERML): Neomancer - an upgrade of a similar equiped Summoner know as the Necromancer, it uses "energy drain" to devour the life essence of its enemies and "death bolt" to finish them off

Battlemaster (2xLPL, 6xMPL): Pulsar - extremely mobile assault, using pulse lasers to bring destruction to the enemies

Banshee (4xLPL, 4xMPL): Blueshift - this is walking death, most pilots realize far too late the massive destruction this mech brings in the form blue pulsing rays of death supplemented by mpls

I prefer to name mine after the style and theme that that particular mech gives off and how it feels in combat. Also throw in "Silk" a lot.

Ex:
AS7-D: Mordhaus (murderhouse)
AS7-D-DC: Skulker
AS7-S: Iron Head
KGC-000: Cartman
DWF-Prime (now DWF-W): Kingmaker
DWF-B: Jagdtiger
WHK-Prime: Silkhawk
WHK-B: Blackheart
BLR-1G: Silkmaster
BLR-Hellslinger: Silkslinger
TBR-Prime: Psycho P*ssy
EBN-Prime: Shaguar
HBR-B: Beelzeboss

Neo/Necromancer, I like that very much.

I used to but changed the names to their loadouts when CW hit and we could select mechs so it was faster for me to go through my mechs and choose. I have each variant completely loaded out for a different playstyle or range.

Mech names take precious disk space on the server. Use abbreviations and stop complaining for insignificant details like this.

For Nigel, I don't know why that's got me laughing so much.
