Most of mine correspond with my paint job/camo or preferred loadout. My K2 has always been and always will be "Gauss Kitty", my turquoise blue and grey Oxide is called "Nitroxide" (you know, like Nitrox 2/3 from Hot Wheels? ... Childhood memories; don't ask), and so on.

Then I started to paint everything green and black and just gave up on naming. :D

I name mine usually as a description or silly name. My BJ-1X is for instance "Fastjack," my CTF-IM is "Ilya Murohurts" and my Locusts all have "cust" on the end. Snipecust, Sneakycust, etc.

I gave up naming my mechs once I started playing Pokemech and collected too many. 8|

I do for some.

For me the Timber Wolf and Dire Wolf hold a special place, they have been my favorite 'mechs since I got into the franchise with MW2, specifically from the Clan Wolf side.

I am a fan of the Polygon camo pattern, as I like "old school" camo patterns like the BDUs in Woodland camo that were standard issue during my time. So, I have that pattern on many of my TBRs and DWFs and at least one setup like a woodland scheme with olive/black/darker green and another setup like arctic/urban schemes in white/black/grey and they get named "Jungle Wolf" and "Arctic Wolf". Other than that I try to give them names that accurately reflect their loadouts like "Gigaspike" or "Teraspike" or "Alpha King".

The Hellbringer I like to name builds after various demons, the Adder snakes, the Warhawk birds of prey, the Nova after classes of stars (based on how hot the build is, LOL), and the Stormcrow corvids.

I'm not a Gambler but I've always been fascinated with the slang. As a result All my mechs are named in relation to those slang terms.

Examples:
Heavy Metal = Aces and 8's
Catapult = Fullboat
Centurion = Bockscar
Timber = Doomswitch

No shortage of slang, so even after 100's mechs there are still plenty to use.

I have theme names for some of my Mechs, usually in a set with others of it's kind.

When I got tipped the Centurion AH with it's Norn paint, I named it after it's Roman equivalent: "Decima" (due to the Centurion's Roman-esque styling). Had so much fun with it I picked up the Yen-Lo-Wang and one other varient, which I then named "Morta" and "Nona".

My Cataphracts tend to take monsterish names, mostly because the Phranken paint came out about the same time: 3D "Mr.Monster", 2X "Dokkaebi" (a Korean spirit/monster), 0X "Spooky"

UrbanMechs get small and/or silly vehicle names: (Urbie)"the LoveMech", "Bonneparte" (from Tank Police), "DeuxChevaux"

Locust after types of daggers: stiletto, baselard,dirk
Blackjack suits: diamonds, clubs, spades
Vindis: skirmisher, peltast, velite
Cicadas named as AT-PT- (M5, C4, R3)

Everything else is either different weapons like the locusts or unit/rpg classes like the vindis.

my mechs must earn their name, i will generally play them until find a build i am happy with for that chassis
then i will either select a name based on a medieval weapon that describes loosely their function and weight
so a light in and out fighter might be a dagger, while a medium brawler is a mace or axe, a stand off medium or heavy might be a spear, a heavy brawler a Hammer

but some mechs pull off matches enough to earn a unique name like Devastator on my AS7-DF and Pepper on my LCT-PB or Titan for my ON1-P with 2x LBX10 and 2x LPL

but for what ever name they get, looks and play style always factor into it

Apart from one or two stand out chassis that I have done exceedingly well in (all Non-Meta), most of mine either have the Standard name, or they have their model designation with Stock preceding it, for any variant that I am currently Stock Pugging with. The K2 is surprisingly effective as a Stock mech.

I will either try to theme name a chassis (Four mechs=four horsemen of the apocalypse) or will match the names to chassis name (Blackjack=Twentyone). In one case I had four mechs of one chassis that made a sentence (Here+comes+da'+boom). Would play a mini game by activating the mechs until the words align properly.

I choose names based on the model letter and then only if I feel the mech has earned it;

Banshee 3M = Malevolence
Blackjack BJ-A = Antagonist
Stalker 4N = Narsil
Stalker 5M = Melon Lord
Jagermech JM6-DD = Deadly ( actually wanted Deadly Do Right, but it wouldn't fit)

And so on

Aside from the Arrow above, I try to get descriptive in naming my heroes;

Jester = Laser Face
Firebrand = Salamander (mythical not reptilian)

My dual ac timber is called "no mo vomit"

I do now.

Renamed IS 'Mechs:
  • Atlas-D-DC: "Red October" Posted Image
  • Founder's Catapult-C1: "Thundercat" Posted Image
  • Shadowhawk-GD: "Bloodhound"
  • King Crab-000: "Clipper" (quad UAC-5s)
  • Misery: "Doom Star" (the 5ERLL alpha really helps add to the effect)
  • Firebrand: "Gipsy Danger" (originally a regular Jagermech pun, I may rename this)
  • Ember: "Kindling"
  • Awesome-9M: "Linebacker"
  • Urbanmech-R60: "Prizewinner" (the one I kept of the c-bill variants I got early by random luck on a stream!)
  • Raven-3L: "Snoopy"
  • Spider-5D: "Spiderbite"
  • Centurion-AH: "Punching Bag"
  • Atlas-S: "Shrugger"
haven't yet thought of a good rename for Pirate's Bane lol

_

Renamed Clan 'Mechs (you may need to google & use wikipedia to understand):
  • Nova: "Aurvandil"
  • Stormcrow: "Muninn"
  • Adder: "Midgard"
  • Kit Fox: "Melrakki"
  • Mist Lynx: "Tregul"
  • Hellbringer: "Sleipnir"
  • Timber Wolf: "Skoll"
  • Dire Wolf: "Hrodvitnir"
  • Warhawk: "Veorfolnir"

Well I suppose I kept to a theme when I named my Jester. I called it: WhySoSerious

Also,
The Vindicators are called...
1AA: WhiteKnight
1R: BlackKnight

I think my Hunchback 4P is called the rather uninspired name of Swayback.

I have a TON of mechs that aren't named anything. I should start naming them.

My mech theme is puns and bad references.

Jenner - "Jennerous"
Cataphract - "Matter Of" ('Phract)
Jagermech - "Jagerbomb"
Firestarter - "Twisted" (Twisted Firestarter)

Now I should probably rename my Shadowhawks into something like the "Shadowshawk Redemption"...
