I dropped twice into River City today. Wanted to see if how the new HSR is working. Do you know what happened? FIGHT AT THE CITADEL!! Seriously?

Was it Skirmish (not surprised), or Assault ( :o )?

Not to be the forum hipster, but I predicted this as soon as I saw the new map. Both teams are relatively equidistant from the center of the map. The Citadel is the center of the map. On one flank you have over 9000 square miles of ocean. On the other flank, you have a river leading into the dam and a mountain area, both of which are out of bounds. You can flank over / under the bridge to space port / upper city, but in Assault mode this means you're really at a high risk of getting your base capped.

I predict that people will start being a bit more creative in Skirmish as we get used to the new map. But in Assault mode, I think we can look forward to many more years of hugging the Citadel and its surrounding areas. It's just inevitable when the Citadel is at the midway point when you draw a straight line from one base to another.

Then again, if Assault mode is replaced by new Invasion-Assault hybrid, then maybe we can finally see the end of the Citadel circle dance.

People are still learning the new map. And it basically pretty much is a new map. Both times I hit RCR during my brief gametime this week, fights ended up around the Citadel - but only after people wandered around trying to find each other for three minutes first.

It felt like an actual city fight, where you never knew who was going to be around which corner. It was goddamn awesome and I love every minute of it. Even the Citadel fights weren't the usual across-the-river nonsense - the fights happened around the citadel, yeah, but they happened around the citadel, shifting around between lower city, the new docks area, the citadel itself, and even the river rocks.

I haven't had so much fun on River City in ever. I cannot bloody wait to see what they do with Forest Colony. I loathe Forest Colony as it stands, but if they can do this with River City...well. Let's see what you can pull out of your hat next, Piranha.

Old habits, die hard.

However, if the map suggests that this is "optimal", then it's "working as intended™".

At least the Citadel looks better. :)

Lot of new spots to flank from which is nice.

Central feature of maps have the highest percentage of fights. We all know we can find a fight there.

It'd be cool if they spread out the drop zones evenly and then didn't put each time on one side of the map. Have it alternate each team as you go around clockwise. Then you'd really promote 4v4 battles early on.

For my money, it's the best map in the game. Ever. It's not perfect, but it's pretty damned great. In Skirmish, there's no natural focal point and there's plenty of good positions to hold, with lots of cover.

I wish I could check a box that just let me play new River City in Skirmish in every match. Over and over and over.
