It was disappointing to not find any mechwarrior presence at comic-con in san diego.

i live in san diego, and am considering putting up a booth next year before we become culturally extinct.

How much does it cost for floor space for the duration of the event?

Was there a BattleTech presence?

Marvel Studios didn't go to Comic Con either, are they going to go extinct too?

But seriously, the expense to attend Comic Con as a vendor is huge and their target market is different than MWO's. E3, GenCon, Origins would all be a better fit for MWO to attend.

True ComicCon isn't a gaming Con!

Marvel wasn't there!

Yup, they had a big shin dig in Hollywood to announce their movie line up through 2019 recently and no major releases coming out soon, so they skipped Comic Con. They could be waiting for the New York Comic con. In 2011, they skipped San Diago and instead attended the NYC one in October.

Now I should have mentioned one thing, Marvel Studios will not be there, but there is a chance Sony might be for Spider Man.

But face it, what movie studio wants to compete with the Star Wars chaos the new movie buzz has created?

I live in San Diego also and have been to around 10 Comic-Cons...until it was impossible to get tickets. They went to selling tickets ONLY online, and that only one day. So the site opens around 10am and I get on, because I was working, at noon - 2 hours. Tickets were sold out. Btw, that's 120,000 tickets (minus the media/presenters/staff).

Not sure how you were able to get tickets OP unless your media. I know the Con just got a contract for 2 more years to stay in San Diego and it's great for the economy and city, but it's become Little Hollywood now and they took a great thing and ruined it.

But, on topic, many years ago NONE of the convention floor was video games. That has changed fairly recently. It probably would be a good idea to have PGI and MWO represented.

Halo is at SDCC

In all seriousness there wasn't a Btech Presence at PAX Prime either last year, not sure there will be this year and that's relatively close to PGI. And the expenses for going to one of the conventions for floor space is pretty high.

A booth cost $3000 this year, and $2600 last year.

You could happily assume $3200 to $3500+ for 2016.
There are discounts for paying in full and cash early (up to $900 for paying at last years comiccon, going down to $100).

A single table was $900 in 2014, and $1000 in 2015, so easily assumed to be $1100+ for 2016.

So you'd be massively out of pocket to do this as just a 'hey, look at this thing' table.

Now, if Iron Wind or something took a booth, arranged an event or something, it could be worth it for them in terms of exposure and sales, possibly even making a return.

You'd be mad to do it without a solid reason and product of your own.

If you check out the actual battletech site, you can see what cons they are going to. I know they will be at gencon in a couple weeks and I'm scheduled to try alpha strike while I'm there. In fact they just might be releasing a new rule book there!

Asks if Disney was there.

Literally the biggest announcements are from Star Wars... which is now owned by Disney.

Marvel too, is owned by Disney, but is left to run itself as it's own company outside of using the licenses for characters to put into disney shows/media.

Yeah... Disney's there, loud and proud, they're just encompassed as Star Wars for the duration of the con.

Comiccon Montreal(!!!) was just last weekend and I did not see a sign of PGI, not that I was really looking though.

Battletech and mechwarrior are really more of a GenCon thing than a ComiCon thing.

There will be battletech events and booths at GenCon.

I am unsure why someone thinks marvel was not at comic-con. One panel I attended was by all the writers of Secret Wars. The marvel cinematic universe had a big Ant-man presence. Marvel literally has a live stream running ... http://marvel.com/sdcc2015

I did not see any Battletech, and there are massive d&d table top gaming events, video gaming events inside and outside. What caught my attention was seeing a Robotech booth, even some comic called Atomic Robo in the hands of a very young girl. Robotech had a panel called "Robotech:The Next 30 Years" on Thursday. Transformers animation was everywhere. Gundam had at least one booth.

The San Diego comic-con is the cultural hotspot . I do have my old mechwarrior league, and have considered a booth before, back in the mw2 to mw4 days. I have run mechwarrior televised events with sponsors before. What I would do here is open a booth and invite video game creators, tabletop players and authors.

Comic-con includes massive amount of table top gaming, and of course the latest video games. For MWO, we could set up 4 computers to play online on 32 inch monitors at 2560x1440 and maybe even get a video card company to do the hardware as an advertising platform.

On the subject of GenCon and the small Comic-Cons, they just are not the same. I was at Hard Rock Cafe and ran into Quentin Tarantino who was impressively nice. At a pit stop at the Hilton, William Shatner walked in. Bruce Campbell and Lucy Lawless sat down for an interview about the new Ash vs Evil Dead at PetCo park at a free side event call Conival. Last year, I met Hugh Jackman at his screening for The Wolverine.

If you aren't at San Diego Comic-con, culturally you don't exist.
