Hi there,

*Edit* As this is a very difficult and confusing topic that make some of the people uncomfortable i will just add some Clarifications.
Do not assume I am, or am not in the Beta.
Do not over complicate the question.
Do not think i am a secret agent trying to write subliminal messages within my question.

If you know the answer because you read it somewhere on a Dev post/blog, please let me know.
If you are a dev reading this please can you post either an Answer to the question, or tell us TBA'ed

And to make the mob happy the new rephrased question is:
Will Beta users need to download 1 client or 2?

Unfortunately some places on Earth still has limited download speeds and would be great if those do not have to download 2 clients.

Regards
RJ

You're breaking the NDA by posting this here.

And no, we don't know. Go to the correct forum and ask there instead.

We don't know, but it heavily depends on the game.

Most probably, you'll just have to download the 1.0 patch when teh game launches, without redownloading and installing the game once again.

I have not broken any NDA rules, i have not mentioned i am in the Beta nor have i mentioned i am not in the Beta, your assumptions does not count breaking any NDA rules. If you assumed i am asking this because i am the beta or not in the beta that is all your assumptions and Assumptions it will remain.

This is a plain good straight forward question, Will beta users need to download 2 clients. or 1 client.

@Adridos, this is what i am thinking too from past experiences, but it can go both ways. Was just curious if anyone knew specifically from a dev post. thanks though.

So you know the contents of the NDA? Which is only accessible to people who have signed the NDA?

I mean all we know about the NDA is that beta testers can't say they are in NDA or talk about the beta, but you appear to know something we don't.

Another assumption :)

Knowing what NDA stands for does not require Beta Access.

Quit being a tool. The guy is asking a straight forward question.

The logic being: If I managed to get into beta and it was a separate client (which means I'd have to download the game twice), it might (1) Drive me over my monthly bandwidth to get both versions. or (2) TAKE FOREVER to get if I had a slow connection.

Which would mean that you might not want to go into beta if the release was only a short time away.

Guys, don't make a drama of this.

RJMadCat - if you are in the Beta, delete this topic and post over at the Beta forums.

If he's not in the Beta, stop pestering him, it's a valid question, also for all of us who get in at August 7.

Personally, I don't think the client will change that much. More likely there will be more and more patches until the game is finished.

Fair enough, you have not broken the NDA rules by explicitly stating you were in the beta but the phrasing of your initial question insinuated strongly that you were in the beta:

Quote

if downloading the Beta will still require me to download the release
,because such a question would fall into the purview of an individual in possession of a beta key who wished to clarify very specifically the effects of multiple downloads, if needed, due to the limitation of bandwidth. This conclusion arises naturally because one without access to the beta wouldn't need concern himself with multiple downloads unless he was a founder who then may be concerned over the August 7 release, the original poster however is not.

It is thus unfair to say that you are safe behind a wall of assumptions because given the conditionals in which the question was posed, the assumption that you are in the beta is favoured more strongly than the contrary view. I can only recommend that OP rephrases his original question with his later rewrite

Quote

Will beta users need to download 2 clients. or 1 client?
as that is more neutral sounding and carries no obvious connotations with it.

In either case, you cannot get an answer from us here OP because we do not know. You would have better luck finding an answer in the beta forum than in here.

I think it's safe to say there's more common sense in one pound of BenEEeeees Vat Grown Bacon than in 90% of the forum population.

Random and completely offtopic question, how exactly does a 'Pigeon Forge' operate?
Is the forge operated by pigeons? Is it fueled by pigeons? (hope not! poor pigeons!) Do you forge pigeons?

I beta tested a lot of games and the majority asked me to download the retail client from scratch and dump the beta client when the game shipped. I agree this sucks, so I hope Piranha just releases a patch from beta to retail to help us cut bandwidth and time.

Yeah this is why i am asking this question in the hopes of a official response somewhere.

I have Beta Tested games where it goes both ways, some needs 1 client some needs 2 clients.

could have just asked the question.

"After we get into the beta and download the client, will we need to install a new client in order to play".

I think everyone here has their own idea of the question, and i am sure we can debate how many variants of this question exists.

Either way it would be nice to get an answer to this :(

The OP has an excellent question.

I have no earthly clue what PGI intends to do with the client, but I can tell you that I have never seen a software company that simply made it possible to "update" their beta client to the final 1.0 release. That includes companies I've beta tested for and companies I've worked for.

Truthfully, it was a forge placed on the Little Pigeon River.

Not truthfully, yes... I forge pigeons. :(

lets try to keep this on topic.
I know for some people this does not concern them, but there are some of us that could allow us to plan in advance.
