Greetings MechWarriors,
With the activation date for regional European servers currently scheduled for July 21st, we will be running a Public Test Session from July 14th until July 16th for the purpose of testing player connections to these European servers.
Accessing this Public Test Server will require that you download and install a separate instance of the MWO client (if you have not already done so for a previous PTS session).
The download link for the PTS installer can be found here.
What Are We Testing?
This session of the MWO Public Test Server is intended to test player connections to our European server allotment prior to the activation of these servers on the Live environment. We are particularly looking for results from European players, although we encourage players from other regions to log-in and test their connections to these European servers as well.
When Are We Testing?
July 14th at 10:00 AM PDT (5:00 PM UTC) until July 16th at 3:00 PM PDT (10:00 PM UTC).
IMPORTANT NOTES
You will only be able to log into the PTS Client starting from July 14th at 10:00 AM PDT (5:00 PM UTC) until July 16th at 3:00 PM PDT (10:00 PM UTC). Attempting to do so before or after the above times will result in a 'Servers Undergoing Maintenance' message.
You will be able to download and apply any necessary patches through the PTS launcher before the above start time in preparation for the PTS activation.
Public Test Server Client Installation Steps
  • Download and run the PTS installer (if a previous install of the PTS Client is not already present on your system).
  • Run the MechWarriorOnline.exe, located in your C:\Program Files (x86)\MWO Public Test\MechWarrior Online\Bin32 (default install location)
  • Click the Patch button
  • Accept the Terms of Use
  • The PTS Client will then proceed to download the MWO install base, which is roughly 7 GB in size.
  • Once the Install Base has been downloaded and installed, the launcher will then download and apply any necessary patches.
  • Once the patches are downloaded and installed, you should now have access to the Play button.
  • Click Play!
Updating an existing Public Test Server Client
  • Run the MechWarriorOnline.exe, located in your C:\Program Files (x86)\MWO Public Test\MechWarrior Online\Bin32 (default install location)
  • Click the Patch button
  • The PTS Client will then proceed to download and apply any necessary patches required for this session.
  • Once the patches have been downloaded and installed, you should now have access to the Play button.
  • Click Play!
What To Do Once You've Launched The PTS Client
1) Log-in with the same e-mail and password as your Live account
2) The Server selection window should appear automatically upon first reaching the Home screen, and can later be accessed by clicking the arrow next to Play Now:
3) Europe will already be checked (the NA servers will not be active in this PTS, and will appear grayed out)
4) Play a match!
5) Once you've run a match or two, let us know in the PTS Forums what your connection experience was like.
6) If you provide a report in the forum, please remember to include the following information:
- Your country
- Your ISP
- Your typical in-match ping and/or connection behavior on Live servers
- Your in-match ping and/or connection behavior during a PTS match
Please read this important information about this PTS client session:
  • The sole purpose of this PTS session is to test the European regional servers only.
  • Logging on for the first time will automatically display the Server selection and Game Mode selection window. Europe will be selected by default.
  • The North American servers will not be active during this PTS, and will appear grayed out in the Server List.
  • Server selection is also available for Private Matches.
  • As the purpose of this Session is to test European regional server connections, match services will only be available for European servers.
  • Your login information for the PTS client will be the same as your Live account login information.
  • Each PTS account will be provided with 50,000 MC, 500,000,000 C-Bills, and 500,000 GXP.
  • Any actions you take inside the PTS client, such as spending MC/C-Bills or customizing your 'Mechs, will not carry over to your Live account.
  • The account that is used for your access to the PTS client is a 'snapshot' of your standard Live account. Any changes you make to your Live account while we are running the PTS session may not necessarily carry over to your PTS 'snapshot' account.
  • The 'snapshot' of your account was taken on July 9th at 11:30 AM UTC.
  • New accounts that have registered after the above 'snapshot' time will not be able to access this PTS session.
To prevent any confusion with the Live environment, all discussion of this PTS session should go into the Public Test sub-forum.
We request that you please only use the Public Test sub-forum for constructive feedback and discussion of this PTS Session.
Please do not submit any support tickets regarding issues with this PTS Session.

Interesting, I was wondering how they were thinking about doing that.

Once all three regions go live, will we be able to select (or deselect) these regions like we do game modes?

Yes, the server selection window will appear in the final release much as it does in the image from the original post (or close to it in appearance), with boxes for each of the three regions.

I'm surprised and thankful to hear that servers will not be forced. I am in south america and my connection to a european server would be atrocious - however it raises some concerns in my mind about player numbers, won't this change make queue times increase dramatically?

As far as I can tell the people that really need the new servers are people in the oceanic region and far east (europeans get a better ping than I do), will these european servers even help them?

I imagine for minimizing queue times you'd have to accept more servers. So, yes, you'll end up with longer waits if you don't.

I, for one, am in EU and still plan to leave NA enabled as an option. ~120ms stable connection? Perfectly acceptable, especially with working HSR.

Of course, I'll take ~50ms if I can get it. :)

Well thats what I wanted to raise really, europeans dont really need a dedicated server, but the australians for example really do.

IF I leave more than one server enabled in the selection window, how will I see later during launch of a game on which server this game is hosted ?

Hope everything goes well with the tests.
I managed to, for the first time in my life, get out of Europe (on work related issues) right when one of my most anticipated features gets tested and goes live!

Good luck PGI and everyone!

They said something about the French/German border on the french side, as their data center does business in France, too. Don't ask me where they said it ... town hall or something.
