Greetings fellow Forumites.

So, as the title says. Mostly like the game, but was wondering if there are any Units out there that are Stock only, or predominantly Stock. New Zealand based, so I have trouble making it to the usual Stock Match events, and was hoping there was a place where Stock Pilots congregate.

Edit: Currently have a Steiner Stable (working on Atlas, but have Hunchbacks and a Commando).

You purposely want to play a stock mech only?

Just kidding. I've been tempted to try and play stock 'mechs just for kicks and see how I do. I'm sure you will find a couple of like minded people out there who run just stocks (for some crazy reason).

Stock K2 is not to be sneezed at. There are actually quite a few (almost) viable stock builds. They require you to use your backside as a bullet sponge due to the 2/1 armor distribution, some are a little light on the legs or CT, they are all super light on ammo, and you really REALLY have to watch your heat gauge. But they can be quite fun.

And if you ever want a true Hardcore mode, can't go past Stock. Though the balance between Hardcore and Trollish is a very fine line, regarding Stock Mechs.

I hope you know that if you level a mech that the exp spent will not transfer over to the stock build. This is very good in private matches and our unit sometimes does training in stocks for a more even challenge. You will always be at more of a disadvantage than just the poor build without the tree bonuses.

You may have known, but it is worth considering.

?

Yeah it will.... you can level a mech tweaked out, and buy the same mech and keep it stock, and the stock one will have all the benefits of being basiced/elited

i think he is meaning that if you only run the mech in Stock Matches, those don't give XP, to unlock. At least I think that's what he is talking about .

Then that is not a stock mech as used in the comps. You have to use the trial mechs that are stock builds. At least as how I was told. The second you modify the skills it would no longer be stock from a purely semantic view. If you just like the lore bible stories, I definitely promote bringing a bad build that is at least basiced/elited if you may be on my team.

Can't be enforced, so none of the Stock MAtches try. Because once you unlock a chassis, any you have of it are unlocked. so 90% of people's mechs would be forever unavailble short of starting a new account and NEVER playing anything but private matches with them.

The stock community openly advocates leveling (eliting) your stock mechs for stock matches. I'm not sure what you're talking about, really.

Like I said, just going by what I was told when we do scrimmages. But please I am very happy to see folks level those POS builds. They need all the help they can get if they are in public que. My experience with those things as a cadet really left a bad taste in my mouth that was made worse when I found out they were tied to lore. I did do fairly well with the Victor, but luckily I dodged that bullet.

FYI If you wanna be a "Steiner" Stable you will go with a Griffin over the Hunchback (a Marik built Medium) ;)

"Stock" You don't change anything ON the Mech. No changes in equipment.

Not 100% true. Griffins are in the Throne Room, and HBKs are Marik produced, but it's long been noted that Steiner loves them, because they fit Steiner design and battle philosophy to a T. It's similar to the Spider, also produced in the FWL, but most popular in the Draconis Combine.

It is produced at Coventry Metal Works, too.

Thanks for the reminder. I remember many of the primary production facilities but age has stolen the rest. ;)

as for teh point of the Griffin... His words was he is a Steiner, I think the Griffin is still a more Steiner Medium than a Hunchback.

Indeed it is. I like to think the HBK is a Davion mech what with the AC and all, but I know it's not. :(

I would love it if PGI gave us a "run mech as stock" option for Stock mech Mondays....or tuesdays....or any day really.

It would add a whole other level of play to the game.

Russ said he'd think about doing so when the Urbie was funded. But that was quite some time ago now.
