Posted this in New Player Help, but figured I'd put it up here as well for a faster response.

I have artimis Missile launchers equiped to my HBK-4J
I am targeting the enemy mechs.
They do not have ECM.
I am holding my crosshairs over the targeted enemy mech....
Nothing.
The missile lock reticle never even shows up on my screen.

Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.

Is it possible you equipped your mech with the wrong ammo, or no ammo at all? For some reason, the UI doesn't stop you from launching a game with zero ammunition.

Another possible explanation is that you were under enemy ECM even though your targets were not under ECM. In that case, you can see them but you can't get a target lock.

Have you tried getting a lock on targets in Testing Grounds? Can you never get a target lock in any match, or was this a specific episode?

Ammo equiped.
No ECM.
Can't even get a lock in testing grounds.
They just blind fire forward like rockets.

I'm baffled.

I'm stumped now as well. Is this only a problem with your HBK-J? If it's happening with all mechs, you may want to run the repair tool, I guess.

Took your advice and tested it on other mechs.
Still unable to lock.
Running repair tool.

Are you running LRMs or SRMs? LRMs lock, SRMs don't lock.

If they are SRM's there is no lock they are dumb fire. If they are LRMs or Streak SRMs they will lock. Since you say you can blind fire them that rules out streaks. Which means either LRMs in which case you have a bug because they should lock, or you are using SRMs which don't have a lock and are dumb fire rockets.

Did you hit "R" and wait until you see the enemy mech info @ upper right first?

Artemis only works with LRMs and SRMS, not streaks.

Double check your weapons. Make sure they are SRM, Streak SRMs (SSRM), or LRMs.

If a target has ECM, or under it's protection from a team mate the lock will take longer. Even if the ECM is being countered.

Edit.

As One Medic Army just posted. Are you pressing R to target?

Ah, this sounds like the most likely explanation. I guess new players have no way of knowing that SRMs don't lock on targets, since there's no in-game information about it.

Sounds like you have SRMs my friend, which are dumb fire rockets. If not SRMs, then you do have LRMs as Streaks don't fire unless you have a lock.
LRMs can be dumb fired but for them to home in on a target requires you to have a lock. In order to missile lock, you need to press the "R" key to lock a target, a locked target will be donated by a red box around the enemy.
To lock a specific target you look at them or what ever is closer to your crosshairs and press "R" key. Once a target is locked you hover your crosshairs over said target. You will see a spinning circle around your crosshairs moving inwords. once you get a solid lock you can begin LRMing away. Just know that once you lose target lock, your missiles that are in flight will go to the last location the target was. However, if you are able to relock the same target while the missiles are in flight, they will readjust and head towards said target.

Edit for clarification.
- Target lock is when you have a red box around an enemiy.
- Missile lock is when you have a red box AND the missile lock icon ( A spinning circle around your crosshairs) converge and turn red.
