GECM - 1.5 ton, Personal stealth only, 375m+ radar invisibility(1-375 = visible). No slowed LRM/SSRM lockon.

AECM - 3.0 ton, 180 meter bubble, 425m+ radar invisibility(1-425 = visible). Slow LRM/SSRM lockon to Carrier only.

IS GECM-1.5t
IS AECM-3.0t

CL GECM-1.0T
CL AECM-2.5T
meh?

I'm in, but reduce the range at which the GECM mech is visible. 1-200 is good.

my idea for that is for

gecm: no counter, no bubble, just covers your mech from locks. same weight and size
aecm: 120m bubble, has counter mode, 2-3 tons more, 1-2 additional slots.

modules are interchangeable. you can stick the aecm in your pirates bane if you dont mind having crappy weapons, but its more at home in a heavy or assault mech.

not sure how things will work for clan. clan is supposed to have a one size fits all ecm module. in which case im thinking the 90 meter bubble the devs have been talking about. it should be slightly worse than aecm but have all its features. or you could make things "fair" (whatever that means) and give them both equivalent options.

guided != fire and forget.

fire and forget means that once the missile is locked on and fired, you are done with it, you dont need to hold lock, the missile will home in entirely of its own devices.

guided simply means that the missile is under active control. you still need to relay targeting information to the missile for it to know where it needs to go. which means something needs to be painting the target, you, another mech, a narc beacon, etc. in the case of srms, being self guided pretty much means its holding its course.

Why do you think they used the word "self-guided" and not just "guided"?

Guided, as you point out, means the firer guides the missile to the target. Self-guided means the missile guides itself to the target.

Also known as fire-and-forget.

Heh, indeed. LRMs should be fire and forget. The SRMs we have now are really MRMs (low tech dumbfired missiles) in disguise. SRMs should in theory have some limited tracking like up to 10 degrees/s which would be enhanced by NARC to 20 or more degrees/s* (i.e. you are going to get creamed). SSRMs should be the exact same (not magic missiles except the launcher will not fire unless the cursor is aligned to that target where SRMs would fire regardless of tracking status so you could have no target and the SRMs would behave just like they do now.

*these numbers would probably have to be pretty low so it would still require relatively good shot placement.

ECM needs a fundamental change, if all you do is reduce the range that still makes it fundamentally the same with the same problems it's always had. I don't have any suggestions for a real ECM fix (aside from making ECM totally different and adding ANGEL ECM) but I DO know that the last thing streaks need is to be even more powerful...

In case anyone does not know ECM is going to be nerfed by reducing the range from 180 to 90.

buffing streaks? how so? any serious streak mech carries a bap anyways.
Actually with them also wanting to decrease bap range they nerf streaks, since then a streak mech can not use his streaks anymore on a ecm protected mech outside 90m. Honestly, if they reduce range of ECM + BAP it is a straight buff for the ecm carrying mech, because you cna approach closer before your ecm breaks, and the "low signal" indicator will appear later. Especially on caustic, when there is a ecm mech behind the hill of the crater you will not be able to sense this anymore with only 90m ECM range. While the current ecm range will tell you this. For me thats a straight buff for all Ninja lights and emc mechs that have a cqc laodout needing to get close on hidden ways.

I'd like to highlight that...Reducing the BAP range will NERF streaks.

The greater the BAP range reduction the more significant the streak NERF, as streak mechs who run BAP have close to within the BAP range to lock on.

All I have is my gameplay experience where:

Outside of BAP range = no locks on ECM mechs. (not considering tag)

Inside of BAP range = locks on ECM mechs (takes longer than non-ecm)

I see a lot of people getting all worked up over the upcoming ECM nerf...

You all sem to be frogeting that this ECM nerf will be just a small part of an overall game rebalancing of EVERY mech in the game..

So...

CHILL.

We don't know what else they will change, and how it will effect everything else and come together in the end.

I choose to hope for the best..

And as a person who uses LRM's often.. yaaay.. more targets for LURM rain!

That's the problem. ECM bubble reduction won't do much as I said before or at least only in special situations. LRM and ECM mechanics need a complete rework. So if that's already the ECM change...oh my...I hope that there will be more

I really hope that light and med mechs will be harder to detect and on the other hand get some better sensors. That would bring ECM somewhat in line again

Yeah, I'm gonna be that guy... Tabletop ECM only nullifies the opponents advanced gizmos like Artemis or C3. Would fix the whole thing, wouldn't even need restrictive ECM hardpoints no more.
