Well, over in the Announcements forum, the Countdown for the AC and SCat commenceth, and we got some pictures of the two mechs in question in the MechLab, so I superimposed their logical rivals over the top of them for some size comparison, and was asked to post a topic in here about it... so I did! :P

As you can see, the Shadow Cat is basically a Cicada with arms. They are the same height, and all of their torsos appear to be roughly the same size as each others.

The Arctic Cheetah, even with the missile boxes, has the SAME EXACT SIZE upper arms as the Firestarter. While the lower arms are more slender. The crotch plate on the AC sticks down a good deal lower than the Firestarter, enlarging it's C torso a bit, but otherwise the body build appears to be very nearly identical. Only the Cheetah is a a bit shorter.

Still wished they scaled down those boxes to match the concept art.
it just ruins the shape of the AC

I don't think it's the scale, so much... the concept art boxes were slanted, and sort of bent to follow the arm..

But, even with the missile boxes the way they are, they are no larger than the Firestarter's upper arms, they are exactly the same size, in fact. It's just that the mech is so small, the missile boxes look huge... It will be funny to see what it looks like if you slap an LRM20 on there :P

Also... love the user name... Armored Core is one of my favorite franchises... And For Answer is easily one of my favorite games of all time!

Thanks for this comparison Twilight Fenrir. I feel like the two mechs are very close to being perfectly sized when you compare them to equivalently sized mechs.

The Cheetah isn't Spider tiny, but the Spider is a badly sized tinymech. Being slightly smaller than the Firestarter is about as fair as it gets.

Here are some sample pictures of the blackjack and cicada to compare as well:

Shadowcat is a bit shorter, but the arms a little wider. From the front, the Shadowcat has about the same volume as the BJ. However, the blackjack is probably going to be much smaller from the side. It's one of the thinnest mechs in the game from the side.

They got it right. I'll be damned. Looks like I won't be touching my Inner Sphere account for a few months.

I was hoping that would be the case. Maybe this -- plus the rescaling they're planning on for other mechs -- means that PGI is finally taking scaling issues seriously.
