Rear Torso Weapons

I can imagine that in MWO because it helps when you are driving yourself in a bad position. And it is not to strong, you have to switch to a rear camera very fast and have only two weapons. I don't think it would be OP because of the skill needed to use it... but a lot of fun!
Maybe you know other mechs with rear weapons... let me know.

The exact Atlas the OP is talking about for one....
The D-DC i think...had two rear facing so PGI just put them in the CT.

PGI said that implementing rear-view camera would be too GPU intensive. So all rear-firing weapons (as they are in BattleTech) are now facing front (in MWO).

'Mechs available in this era:
BattleMaster - two rear-firing Medium Lasers
Archer - a pair of rear-firing Medium Lasers
3050 Atlas - rear-firing Medium Pulse lasers, AS7-S had rear firing Streaks too
Bandersnatch - rear-firing Mediums
Caesar and Cataphract - rear-firing Mediums
Centurion -one rear-firing Medium Laser
Devastator, Dragon, and many more, no sense in listing them all ...
Even the Clanners use rear-firing weapons: Check Madcat D - of its four Streak SRM-6s, a pair of them is rear-firing. Nasty surprise for would-be backstabbers.

The D also has flip-arms, the idea being having the same firepower in both directions. I guess high arm-mounts were deemed a bad idea on an already op chasis

Flippable arms? That's something what we will probably never have in MWO.

Do you really think that it's because of those rear-firing lasers?
1) Compare the armament of the Devastator and the Atlas.
2) Compare the heat capacity of both 'Mechs.
3) Compare the BV of both 'Mechs.
Rear-firing weapons are often very useful in Battletech - that is, if you play something else than TurretTech with Devastators, Thunder Hawks and Pillagers.

I can't begin to imagine the amount of friendly fire we'd get with rear-facing weapons.
I'd totally like a rear-firing flamer though, installed in the nether region of my mech. Sophomoric yes, but imagine firing that into the face of chasing mechs.

one streak-6 on each of its torso should be rear mounted (it's not in mwo obviously)
Alt. Config. D
This configuration mounts a pair of ER PPCs as its primary weapons. These are supported by four Streak SRM-6 launchers with two in the left torso and two in the right torso. One Streak SRM-6 on both torsos is rear mounted.

also (may be they will add it some day)

the 'Mech carries six Magna Mk II Medium Lasers, two of which are rear mounted

Atlai lose to devastators because the devastator has 2 guass, 2 PPC, and some token medium lasers for crit seeking. Or the downgraded version has 2 AC10 and 2LL which out ranges that hard hitting weapons of that era's Atlai.
The Rear facing lasers on the other hand do a great job of discouraging bug mechs from chewing up your rear armor.
