You?

Right now I am really enjoying my Griffin 2N, however I really do love the No Wang.

If I had to choose between the two, No Wang would win.

So...the 11 IS Mediums don't count when saying Mediums are generally second class citizens? And a Well done MDD will still own a Nova barring insano quirks. Ice Ferret is...bad, and Scat won¡t pack the punch or armor to truly challenge, though it should make one HECK of a harasser.

So yeah, even if your supposition holds true, that's 1 Medium out of 15, better than 1 or 2 Heavies. (Sorry but a "fixed" Crow I doubt will challenge a Hellbie.)

Also re-read that opening statement: GENERALLY second class citizens. So uh, no, 1 good doesn't disprove my statement at all, actually.

Want moar sarcasm? ;)

Ahhh... Bishop, come on, you insult yourself with that post. You're better than that :P.

My objection clearly only concearned clan mechs, which you implied yourself in your post:

Well, Mediums are still generally second class citizens, at least to Clan Heavies, which basically can do anything a Medium can do, but with Heavy Armor and up to Assault Class firepower.
[...]

If I may, in all humbleness: objection!

Compare a SCR to a MDD, HBR or SMN.
Hardpoints, hardpoint positions, speed, hitboxes.
Sometime I even feel the SCR is better than the TBR. Little less weapons, litte MORE durable.
[...]

If you can't refute it, bringing in IS mechs (which were clearly not the point in the objection) won't cut it.
For clans, it's 3(4) mediums vs. 5 heavies.
And there, mediums are definitely on par with heavies.

"On par" btw. meaning "having some advantages and some disadvantages that balance each other out" and NOT meaning "are everywhere superior".
Just to ... avoid further sarcastic shortcutting :P

Back in beta the CN9-A was a god. So hard to kill and did so much damage. I ran it until they killed SRM hit reg.

I like HBKs and Novas best right now. They just feel right. WVR and SCR are kinda boring. The HBK-4H with 4ML AC10 is my closet favorite mech. It's basically an unending barrage of damage and has same alpha as a 4G

Adder is my favorite medium. :P

From the profile of the mech, loadout, mobility, and utility, the Shadow Cat could very well be my favorite medium mech. The Hunchback 4SP was one of my first mechs, however, and was a fantastic ride. Still think of it as a solid brawler for the tonnage, with incredible arm range of motion, and as an early ride it will have a place in my heart. While the Cicada was my first owned mech ever, it always felt underwhelming to me.

I want to love the Nova, but it and I never really jelled.

I do not play mediums, but if I did, I would just pilot the best one. The Stormcrow... or maybe the Shadow Cat depending how good that one turns out. Though I like the idea of MASC, ECM, and JJ's. Sounds fun.

This got me thinking ...
Really?

If you compare
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b5bf22f0a1c52d1
with
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...fac8905ad543c7d
(pods are just exemplary, of course)

Apart from the obligatory ECM, is the HBR better?
I doubt it.

Stormcrow is
+ faster, more agile, better torso twist
+ much smaller silhouette
+ has more and mostly better placed hardpoints (2 E above the cockpit <3, no low-hung arms)
+ does not have 2/3 of its equipment depend on a SINGLE component (LT)
while only having minor disadvantages of
- considerably less slots (but enough, though, even for lots of DHS)
- 3 less DHS (migh even be an advantage, though)
- sligtly less armor

Beyond theorycraft: piloting a SCR and its loadouts feels much deadlier than piloting a "shoot me now"-marked HBR.

So ECM aside: is a HBR really superior over a "fixed" SCR?

Couldn't you have asked an easier question, like "Which one of my children do I love the most"?

*sigh* If I had to choose, it would probably be the Centurion. I've gushed about it's looks ever since it was unveiled and was literally the first Mech I ever piloted in MWO. Even though it got the Goon treatment by the modelling team, it's wonderfully sturdy and fairly flexible in it's loadout. All it lacks is jump jets. And Triple-Strength Myomers :P

Hunchbacks, any one of them, even the 4H, I greatly enjoy driving them. Just so much win with those mechs.
When ever I am in slump, I simply go to my good old Hunchies and they always pull me out of it.

"Hey, Mr. (Insert mech name here) how would you like a nice hot AC20 round to the face?!"

As for looks. To be honest its a toss up between the Hunchie, Cicada, Nova, Cent, and Griffin.

I love piloting my Cents (YLW specifically) its a workhorse and it survives if you get a chance to spread the damage.
  • Yen-Lo-Wang
  • Hunchback 4G (Founders)
  • Gray Death
  • Any of my other Shadowhawks
  • Enforcer (4R, 5D)
I love mediums, but sometimes they are depressing to pilot. You make a mistake and 90% of your firepower is gone.

Vanity =/= Inability to grasp the game.

Am i such a bad person to want my mech to look the best it can? Is it a crime to wish for it to look less like an American Football player?!

Cents are easy prey - if it has an AC20 blow the Gun-Arm off, blow the Legs off if it has no AC20 - Cent done!

People simply dont do it...

Such a hard question...

For performance my stats say Wolverine 6K, which I'd say is pretty fun as a wubverine.

For fun, Enforcers if I want to jump either 4R or 5D. Otherwise hmmm I like both Hunchies and Cents a lot, more specifically HBK-4G and 4P (though stats say I don't do so great in them so far) and Cent AH with an honorable mention to the AL (I do decent in the AH, not so much the AL))

For looks hmmmm probably the hunchback, I love that squat little linebacker of death look it has. It looks so functionally deadly.

VND-1R does rather well as does the Nova

Well , when confronted on it, a goodly number cried it died too easy.

And those who voted for the aesthetics before game play issues really demonstrated they don't grasp the game well enough to deserve a say in it.

Had me there for a second Bish.... I only choose my mechs based on aesthetics.

When it comes to the meta:

As for resize.... I did vote based on what I deem to be a big issue with mediums, their HUGE size..... The SHD (I think that's the one I voted for) is just so damn big....

Apparently the masses disagree with us on this "Centy needs rescale because it dies easy".
...

I'm not aware if I've read this reasoning here on forum. I think people think that Cent needs "rescale" (more like rework) because the concept art is just so gorgeous and the 3D models just doesn't look like it, i.e. for aesthetic reason. Maybe I'm wrong. I do think that way though.

As for my favorite medium, well, it must be the Stormcrow because of its speed and it can do almost everything. I also love how it looks!

EDIT: sorry I hadn't read your post on the 2nd page when I was typing this.

Mhm, it does need it for Aesthetic purposes only, and it's not a "rescale" it needs, but a re-model.
However to be honest, so does the Awesome (which got the most votes in the poll). It doesn't need a RESCALE, it's scaled (at least in my opinion) fine. The problem is that its model and hitboxes are absolute trash (I'm talking about the Awesome, not the Centurion here. Centurion's hitboxes are ok).

View PostKoniving, on 03 July 2015 - 05:38 PM, said:

While Treb and Quickdraw do need rescales, the Treb is skinny compared to the Centurion...

But honestly, on the left is MWO's Centurion. On the right is the same Centurion rescaled to match the limb and body thickness of the concept art.

Centurion. Pretty much any Centurion, though I'm more partial to my Wubturion-AL and my special AH variant.

The Wubverine-7K is a close 2nd.
