TL;DR Maneuverability reminds me of Mist Lynx, which means once it is fully mastered, it should be a solid knife-fighter. Torso hitboxes seem pretty good, although the legs seem to draw damage. The addition of ECM and TAG, however makes it an amazing asset to the team beyond raw damage potential and opens the mech up to a very dynamic and fun playstyle (part support mech/part hunter-killer).

Enjoy! To skip the mechlab/quirks part go to 4:07 in the video.

My first impressions? This thing tanks like a beast. It's like a mini Banshee.

I see lots of people playing the medium to long range peeking game with those high energy hardpoints, but in this little black duck's honest opinion they are doing themselves a disservice by not equipping short range weaponry and going to town on the enemy. SPL's, MPL's and ERSLAS are this thing's best friend.

It's an amazing knife fighter. I've been eviscerating enemies, and have been running in Cheetah packs with an ECM bubble so thick visible light is reflected and the planet's gravitational field is altered.

I've finished few matches without every scrap of armour removed before someone manages to bring me down. The legs are vulnerable in medium range engagements, but I prefer to be at a range where I can smell the uncontrollable urination of an assault pilot when their fear instinct is jump started by their vanishing rear armour.

I haven't even unlocked speed tweak yet.

pop down off ridge behind rear most line/ball heavy assault unleash kill joy and jet up the other ridge to safety then await the angry swarm of lights for revenge, meet them with your mediums and lights and kill them all. Then go back to harrass killing all the remaining heavy / assaults.

GLORIOUS.

Legging seems to be the only way to kill it efficiently. The torsos soak damage like the firestarter, but it has the Clan XL engine, so you can't pop the shoulder and take it out.

Really annoying to deal with and definitely one of the best (if not THE best) light mechs in the game.

Yeah, I dropped later yesterday night with my friends in a light mech wolfpack (2xAC + Jenner). I was in the C and my friend was in the Prime with 5xSPL. I was shocked at how efficient it was even without full basics. My poor Mist Lynx had to be mastered before it was truly effective. I can't wait to master it and experience what Firestarter pilots have been enjoying the whole time.

I generally view it as a Tier 1 light as it stands, on par with the Firestarter for knife fighting, but superior when comparing midrange builds, which the Firestarter can't do.

I only die to legging it seems, and it tanks very well, losing side torsos before the CT.

I really see no downside other than it running a little hot.

Oh, and ECM makes it an easy mode mech.

nice to see a video where the "star" isn't being obnoxious! Watching you showed me a few things I do wrong. Mostly how to shoot and scoot. I'm an Assault Pilot by trade so lights aren't my thing.

Really like how you didn't talk down on anything except how the TAG wasn't working as hoped. ;)

I agree.

The ACH is ludicrously fun. I spent quite a long time back in the day maining an SDR-5D, and more recently have been taking MLX into matches with four SPLas and still pulling 400-500 damage games with it fairly often. Moving into the perfect fusion of the two mechs, with the added firepower of the FS9 feels like easy mode to me!

We finally have a Clan mech that scratches that unreachable itch perfectly. A fast, agile, mean light mech to bring into a brawl or hunt down other mechs with. That knife's edge between smashed by a rock or being the rock itself. This little adrenaline fueled nightmare is, perhaps, my current favorite mech.

If the enemy focuses on your torsos and arms, you can tank it for days, which was a nice thing about the FS9 that it inherited. It also took the ECM and jump capability from the SDR and MLX series, which helps tremendously when it comes to battlefield longevity, mobility, and the ability to move around unseen. Of course, that just lets you get into (and out of) range a whole hell of a lot easier!

Right now, I am still transitioning from the mindset of seeing an FS9 with 8 SPLas and going "oh hell, I'm screwed," to "oh, 'dis gun' be good, I can actually fight back now!"
