I average between 40-70 ping on the NA servers and roughly 140-150 on the EU. I don't see any huge differences between the two (must not be l33t enough), so I leave both flipped on. Better matches, and a better reception for the EU guys' new toy.

I am somewhat dismayed by the amount of hostility I've seen from a couple of EU guys over the whole thing, though. It's not at all a common issue, most of them just seem delighted to finally have the option and I'm happy it's working so well for them...but when I see someone say "FINALLY the goddamn Americans get to see what it's like on the right side of the ocean", I'm left wondering when I missed the meeting where 'Americans' decided that the Canadian company was going to work exclusively on NA servers back when they were developing on a shoestring and had to answer to IGP.

I'unno. I'm not really complaining so much as just baffled by the vindictiveness I've seen a few times. I've never wished bad ping on anyone, honest o_o.

Double funny when, for most euros, the ping difference really doesn't make that much of a difference. 120-150 stable ping is fine. I imagine 200+ is where it really starts to get noticeably wonky but the obsession for really low pings isn't really understandable unless you're trying to be a pro gamer (in which case every ms matters, even if below a certain threshold it's really only in your head).

I keep all options enabled, though I am certain when the Oceanic launches I'll have to opt out of it because I'm on the western edge of europe... my ping to Singapore's going to be horrible, I just know it. Will still test but damn, PGI has to pull a real miracle for it not to be true.

Honestly, I need to pay closer attention to which servers I find myself on and how the game unfolds. I frequently end up playing with Europeans and Aussies because of my work schedule, and maybe this will help me double check the impressions I have of the differences in playstyle between Americans and Europeans. (Americans tend to bolder and less prone to working in teams, Europeans tend to be more defense oriented.)

*waves Aussie flag*

My average ping to NA is 260-270 range.

My average ping to EU server has been around 400.

I swapped back to NA only, but the event means I will switch back to both.

As a fellow Australian, that sucks to hear. I was expecting the worst, but hoping that EU servers might have helped.

As an Australian 250-300ms ping has become a way of life.

Playing with low ping American's can get frustrating when they go on about how much better they are, but they really really can't deal with the lag that we've been dealing with for years.

When the original Gears of War came out it had peer-to-peer hosting, and would choose the best host for the players. One memorable game had 4 Americans vs 4 Australians. Americans were the host. The first two rounds were close, with the Americans winning both with a small lead.
At the start of Game 3 the servers switches host to an Australian, and then we absolutely thrashed them. They all rage quit immediately after.

The EU server doubles my ping, and since it is already at around 115 to the NA server, that makes a pretty big difference in playability. I wouldn't mind playing on the EU server if my ping was something like 150 or less, but it isn't so I'm NA-only right now.

NA only for solo, mostly for speed of matching. I seem to have to wait for longer matching when I have both options selected.

Both are selected for group matching, again for speed of matching.
