It predates the Weimar government. The KKK waves the American flag. Do we judge the Stars and Stripes because some fascists wave it around? Cuba's flag is based on the Stars and Stripes, but they are a totalitarian state. By your logic, the Stars and Stripes should be banned because it inspired the Cuban flag. And as long as we are at it, why does PGI allow the Republic of China to have a flag, which is definitely a totalitarian state responsible for killing 45 million plus people? Imperial Germany isn't the same as {Godwin's Law} germany by a long shot. The logic doesn't click with me. PGI may not want to make the old country flags or symbols - like England's golden lions, Imperial Chinese dragons, or Germany's black eagle, but if they do, they better not pick and choose which cultures get picked by your methods of selection and/or censorship!
As far as guilt by association, the US flag flew during the slave era and during the genocide of millions of American Indians. Take down one flag because of guilt by association, and you're going to have to take a whole lot more of them down unless, of course, politics is at work here, and not logic or history.... hmmmm.....
Actually You'd have to take them all down. History...History...History.
