Depends on the player. I do my best work from the Atlas-S. Cheapest? No idea. I don't track that.

I would go with a Banshee Laser Boat I guess.
They are cheep and if you have a good sense of the battlefield and your position there in you can do very well.

From an IS PUGer.

It might be my Ilya Muromets. It has ok speed with a STD engine (STD 285 maybe), and 3 A/C5s and 3 MLasers.

To get that speed with a STD engine (72kph), it runs Endo and Ferro that limits ammo to 5 tons. It's ok for most solo matches with good fire discipline, but has FAR too little ammo for CW or anything like that.

It's good solo because it has good firepower that earns consistent high damage values in matches, good at getting kills, and It gets component destructions frequently which combined with everything else (and a 30% C-Bill boost) is great for earning C-Bills.

Just love it for solo drops. Only real downside is A: it has to be bought with MC and B: it is a heavy and falls into that large heavy queue (long wait times to launch).

As for cheap good solo mech, maybe something like a light or medium. I like Centurions, maybe that would be good.

As for Clan, I can't see anything bad with a TBR or SCR. The Hellbringer with ECM is also probably great for PUGing.

P.S. A good cheap PUG machine might also be a Cicada 3M. Fast, decent firepower, ECM. I bet the Cicada 3M would be a great PUG machine.

Griffin 2N. Ya got speed. Good firepower, enough armor and the ECM makes up for a lot of teammate shortcommings.

I run mine with 4 srm 4 and an er ppc. Oddly, much harder to do well in group queue. There ya need more range.

ARGGGG. STOP. That website is one guys opinion, not complete fact. just as one example where hes flat wrong imo, he has the BNC-3M rated as tier 5! its one of the best mechs in the game, certainly tier 2, in my opinion Tier 1.

My personal solo queue favourite rides are ADR-Prime(i) with 2xCERPPC and PNT-9R with 2xPPC, 2xJJ - but thats personal preference. I like lights for solo, assaults for group.

I think a fast version of whatever class you feel you can most influence a match in. Speed is hugely important in solo play, since you can't rely on teammates to help you too much. I run BLRs, clan heavies or top lights if I'm trying to just make bank. But usually I'm leveling or practicing something, so I run everything. :)

One of the tenants of war - adapt and overcome. If your mech is constantly left behind, then something is either wrong with your awareness of your team's movement or your mech needs to get its butt on the treadmill. Perhaps drop to something 10 tons lighter or find a way to get a bigger engine in your mech.

QFT. Also, he plays at maximum Elo and often in strong groups. That doesn't always connect to what the average solo PUGger experiences.

Want to never fail a 30 point challenge in the solo-q madhouse? Dakka Whale.

Cheap but effective mech for solo-q? HBK-4G.

Executioner. It has the agility to dictate where engagements take place, can fit some nasty close range brawling builds, and has the armor to go toe to toe with anything 1v1. Simply too fun! The EXE's only weakness is prolonged poke wars, where it has to sit in the back or take poor trades. This is easier to avoid in solo.

Best solo, cheapest mech? Easy! TDR-5SS with a STD300, 20DHS, 7MPL, MPL range/cooldown modules, Seismic Sensor and Radar Deprivation.

I'll just leave this here from yesterday:
