Howdy,

First some background: I play from Australia. Pings between 220-250 are a norm and the game is absolutely playable. I don't believe that our EU cousins had pings worse than that...

So what's the point of splitting an already small player base into two even smaller groups!?
And before I hear some crap about lag being an issue for competitiveness (e-sport BS) consider this:

Lag works both ways. While it (theoretically )makes opponents harder to see/hit, it also protects the lagged player. Phenomenon known as "lag shield". Because my location is communicated to opponent slower he/she also not aware of my true position.

Anything under 400 ms is really not an issue.

Word to developers: Drop this sever thing and work on something that really matters.

Cheers!

Sometimes I can not believe how short minded and selfcentered people can be so It does not make an affect on you, screw it.
I think PGI s best idea was to make a EU server and its even better you can change it ingame by just one click. Thats realy cool.

I can nail Lights much more consistently in the EU server thanks to 100 less ping, so it matters.

Being a fellow aussie, I somewhat sympathise with the OP. Playing on the EU server, the game is noticeable more difficult to play due to avg pings jumping 100+ to over 350 from the NA server. HSR drops in quality and ability to roll damage becomes a dice roll, etc. Not uncommon to run behind cover only to take dmg from an alpha from some enemy you thought you avoided (i call it "ghost dmg") due to the severe lag.

I'm not suggesting to shutdown the EU server, I'm not demanding that a miracle be performed and the problem be fixed (it can't). But it is a bit of a kick to us Oceania players - either we put up with longer wait times from excluding the EU server or we put with disadvantageous ping if we do decide to drop in the EU server. Then there's also those of us in units with many EU players (I'm in 420 and about half our unit are EU) and I group play with these guys alot and I can't exactly ask them to exclude EU server whenever they're playing with me.

Currently, I just have both servers ticked as when I tried NA only, the wait times were just too painful. I've sucked it up even though it has made things overall worse for us aussie players.

But I can definitely see the advantages of regional servers and don't begrudge the Euro servers for existing.

Seriously... and you call yourself an Australian...

I get around 250-280ping from Brisbane Australia on the NA servers and didnt really see any difference when the server location moved a little while back, sure the EU server sucks for us. I loaded into my first EU server game and my ping was 400 and I coulnt hit anything reliably so when it ended I promptly unchecked the EU server from my list and went on with my life.

Sure I was kinda concerned with the splitting of such a small player base considering all that talk ages ago about the 3pv/non3pv queues but why do you have to trash something that is fantastic for other players?

When I clicked on the thread I honestly thought I was about to read a joke post.

I play from Australia and think having European servers is brilliant.

Its misleading to refer to the implementation of regional servers as 'splitting' the playerbase, considering all players are able to select the server(s) they wish to use. Unless you play exclusively during European peak hours I doubt you'll notice an increase in the time it takes to find a match. Even then, its rather selfish to expect the entire European playerbase to have a sub-optimal game experience just so that you can save a few extra seconds finding a match.

There have been so many games in the past that cater exclusively to North America. Its great to see a comparatively small games company provide support for other parts of the world, first with HSR and now with regional servers.

Besides, we are getting our turn very soon. :)

Honestly I already found wait times long even before Euro server.

My trick to deal with it ?
1. ALT-ENTER !! MWO goes to windowed mode.
2. Shift half the MWO window a bit left so, I can still see the 'Searching' icon.
3. Use the other half of the screen to browse the internet or read manga or something...
4. Go back to MWO when MM finds a game.. May take >5mins.

:) B)

An Oceanic/ AustralAsian server would make a lot more sense right now, since there are many a player from that region of the World. Australian players, alone, I cannot count the number I have encountered in a game, same for the Kiwis (sorry, new Zealanders!) and a number of Singaporeans.
Why not bring a server like that into existence for those of us with just a few feet of ocean away?

I believe that the european servers, and later, the oceanic servers are made in preparation for the large inpour of players expected for Steam release... they need to be ready to handle many more people playing, so they have to install the appropriate infrastructure..

So splitting the current player base is not a main concern right now..

We are getting an Oceanic server on the 4th of August, located in Singapore (less than two weeks away!).

The way the announcement is worded suggests that they are also considering adding more servers to the Oceanic region, in different countries, at a later date.

Game play is indeed smoother after the split even if my PING actually increased. I have a feeling the lag is due to a overworked server. Splitting the servers seem to load balance them for a smoother experience.

I don't think there actually are any people in Australia. I'm fairly certain the terrifying wildlife ate them all and then developed sentience. That's right. Those aren't people posting from Australia. They're sentient poisonous spiders and saltwater crocodiles!

LOL.

In that case, i would like to know how i am magically getting pings of ~45 to a server in canada from the UK. I think, personally, it is because you are full of manure and the server is in europe as advertised.

Could you stop with throwing this everywhere? We can't make any progress, because someone always screams that it'll split player base. This player base is so small that I had pretty normal waiting times yesterday while having selected only EU Server and only Conquest. You don't see an opportunity to grow player base, because now many of EU players can play comfortably?

Well, I just read the announcement that the EU server is currently experiencing some instability. Hopefully we will see some improvement when it gets ironed out because I was having some terrible lag issues playing on EU games last night.

So long as things get consistent and stable like the NA server post-HSR fix, I shouldn't have much of a problem. Last night on EU server was like pre-HSR fix all over again with completely random hitreg.

Even the Canadian server isn't located in PGI's offices. So much fail in one run-on, misspelled sentence. Thanks for the morning chuckle!
