All this does is allow some players to have a good ping sometimes when they connect to the closer servers, and a bad ping other times.
What is probably going to eventually happen is people will uncheck the servers they get higher pings on, and it will divide the playerbase, creating long wait times due to less overall players on each server... I don't know any FPS types that would use a server they get a higher ping on when they have a choice of a lower ping one.
It might be working right now, since mostly everyone has both servers checked, but people will start unchecking one of the servers... It will only get worse as new servers are added.
Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against EU players having better pings, but I don't think this is the best solution for the game over all... Unless the playerbase drastically increases, odds are this is a bad move.

its introduction worsened my ping on the american server by 50 and the eu server has the very same 320 ping as american despite lol servers in europe have 170 ping for me
I'd say it's coincidence because my ping to NA is unchanged. Perhaps there are issues in your connection to the NA servers? Give PGI support a call if it persists, they might have a clue.

And to nitpick somewhat, it is 38% which is quite a bit more than a third.
And EU server makes totally sense, to serve apparently second most numerous nationality from around here. (With WoT and the like, MWO may indeed find a crowd from there)

My ping times are around:
NA : ~115-150 ms
EU : ~15-20 mis
so yes, I like the EU servers.
Besides, i can still switch / click on both server locations from the play button, so it's a perfect solution if the EU server should be unpopulated due to daytime issues.
Well done PGI

First drop on EU server: 45 ping. Pointless you say?
How about you wait for the Oceanic server instead of complaining like a ... well, like an entitled little brat?
Edit: toned that down a bit

My first, and only drop on the EU server :380 ping. what does this mean for me? i'm effectively cut off from a large slice of the mwo player pool.
And as for the oceanic server well i'm not too hopefull there

I recommend anyone with a good ping on the other region server from them to keep both enabled. This way the players with poor latency on the other region can stick to their own region, and those of us with good latency can fill in on both.
