Needs to be more rabble about the terrible network issues.

It's been plaguing the game since I've been playing, and searching through the forums, this has been an issue for a very long time, that people have complained about, and just accepted it.

I don't accept it, from the day one players to the 40 year old virgin, this is a problem that persists, and gets you killed.

CW is a thing, and new mechs are shiny, the regional servers are there, but this is still one of the if not the biggest issue in this game.

From SRMs to not doing any damage, to heavier mechs using houdini voodoo magic backing up until they teleport behind you.

Or friendlies that are behind you decide to give walking the finger, and quantum leap their ass in front of you whilst you use your weapons.

And on that note... WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DAMN INVISIBLE WALLS? That gut-wrenching feeling when you jump-jet to the top of a building only to find that there's invisible geometry, or the flat surface of the roof has mech gravitational repulsors THAT SLIDE YOU FROM THE CENTER OFF THE EDGE, I've had times where I JJ in place burning my fuel without leaving the ground. And for some reason (I don't know if this is a key binding or something) occasionally when I JJ it gives me lance command?

So what's the point of this form?

To vent personally, but also to remind you guys that the core fundamentals needs to be fixed before we ask for more shiny crap.

My netcode is outstanding at the moment. Ever since the last HSR fix, it's been awesome, and I'm in Australia, the land of 'lead them by a mech length'.

Which server are you playing on?

mhmm Location is always important to these conversations. I see none of what the op is talking about and I have a ping of 44 on the NA servers, and about 130 on the Euro side I dont see these issues. Now the invisible walls, thats just something we'll have to deal with. The geometry in some of the maps is very intricate (see Tourmaline), and would take forever I'm sure to iron all that out.

It's been better than ever for me. As an Aussie I find it playable on both Euro and NA servers and that's even with a ping most wouldn't find acceptable (~270 and ~380 respectively). I can actually hit things accurately with lasers now!

With invisible walls... even those are better than they were before. But they're never going to be very good, because of how PGI has decided that maps need ridiculously over-complex visual geometry that requires just as complex hitboxes, which doesn't bode well performance-wise.

CA, USA. On the NA regions I average 60-144.

Yeah, that's a balancing act though. People complain already about a lack of detail - and the nature of the BT combat and design doesn't help either.

Lots of high fidelity newer games get away with high detail because your view in front is usually fairly claustrophobic, hemmed in with buildings and whatnot, so that draw calls are limited. In BT games, you kind of need to tower over everything to get an appreciable sense of scale, so that means sometimes huge swathes of map need to be rendered at once, which can be taxing on your hardware - which might explain the way some maps seem to have more rudimentary terrain hitboxes.

I have noticed though, that invisible walls are far, far less numerous on the new River City, though I haven't science'd that too hard as yet. Here's hoping the map team is making a concerted effort to smooth out map hitboxes as they carry out the redesigns.

Hmmm, odd. That ping should be more than playable. Have you been dropping on the EUR servers as well?

OP if your ping is ranging that much that might be your problem right there. I am in California, I have a very stable 95 ish ping. never jumps more than 3-5 difference. On the Euro servers I get almost exactly 100 ping more. Also rock solid. I have none of the issues you are talking about.

US here, avg 45 ping on NA server, and I see all sorts of issues since the latest patch. Every member of my unit I've dropped with, and many players in those matches have all been noticing extremely irritating, game-breaking behavior.

It ranges from wonky collisions, losing control of your mech for long seconds at a time and having it spin in circles, much rubberbanding and crazy mech teleportations, to hits not registering, to enemy mechs being invisible.

Several guys have a theory that it happens mainly when there's EU guys in game on the NA server, or when we as NA go to EU, but I don't see how that could possibly be the issue.

Whatever it is, it's been a pretty godawful weekend to play MWO, so I definitely understand the OP's frustration.

Go here:

http://www.pingtest.net/

Run the test let us know the results. My bet is you have got a lot of jitter on your connection. Next question, who's your isp? And what brands are your modem and router?

Disable interrupt moderation on your network card properties. You want UDP throughput.

A lot of the "network issues" IMO are the server uptimes.. usually when it is extended (no patch day). There's also real networking conditions that alter the flow of your Internets.

There's also your own comp+ISP, and there's PGI's still mediocre HSR code (especially with respect to collisions-rubberbanding).

If it were easy to blame one thing, it would be too easy. You'd only see a more concerted effort of complaining if it was always PGI's fault.

Everything has been working MUCH better for me lately, with the exception of SRM's and collisions.
