I believe it was late August but I could be wrong, the topic was discussed during the last town hall but since I don't have access to the audio/stream I can't confirm. If you do a search their maybe information in a previous post, I believe someone did a live update during the town hall; so I would imagine its in there.
@You other 3 *pfft* at least TRY and be neighbourly

My fear is that the general reaction will be negative and that will affect the development of the game; let's be honest, this game isn't easy to be good at and with the average attention span of the "CoD" generation it's currently set up to fail - through no major fault of either PGI or the game.
I guess we'll see.

I agree with you.
I also think that PGI is relying too heavily on Steam to "save" them with a massive influx of players. Here's the thing though, how many games are there on STEAM? Yeah, lots....so without any advertising or anything how are people going to just magically show up?
There needs to be a drive for people to be WAITING for it, and seriously, outside of the STEAM box......what's the difference? I have STEAM, it's great for sales and cheap games, but for instance Warframe.....I started playing a few weeks ago, it's on STEAM.....but I just downloaded it normally, what's the difference?
It's not like distributing the game on Xbox and having those players linked into the PC servers, it's not opening up a huge player base that are currently prevented from playing it. The people that download the game in October on STEAM could be playing it right now just the same......LOL
And I agree, the few randoms that STEAM pulls in will quickly turn away if the game is not A) more new player friendly in terms of tutorials AND rewards and more complete.

Pretty sure it's October, and will be more than just a reset. If only there as a place where a company could post and distribute information and engage in conversations longer than 160 characters.

What would a 3rd Beta for CW show? People predicted long before CW that 80% of the community would play clans and IS would lose badly in CW. Well, that has been prooved twice now. No learnings from new betas.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you are trying to say.
I wouldn't call Steam "crappy", but the point remains....it's not "new", getting a steam release does nothing but maybe get a little more visibility for a game that has next to no advertising.
I don't think Steam will result in a massive influx of players, especially ones that stay. I would say figure about 30-40% of those who check it out through Steam will stay, the rest will stop playing after a month, without some changes of course. If Phase 3 surprises with decent content injections......maybe.

It's not even just the bad reactions of the "CoD" generation that get slaughtered in their first few drops and say "game stupid I quit!". When this game is on steam we'll have to deal with all the disgruntled ex MWO players that will relish the opportunity to go on Steam, give the game a bad review and rant about things they didn't like 2 years ago. Judging by some of the stuff they post on other forums, it could make the game look pretty bad.

Plus everything Lexx said.
I expect it to not turn out as well as some might hope. I would think that a Phase 3 that's actually pretty awesome plus a great rebalance to make everyone happy would precede a Steam release by a couple of weeks. A PvE environment for the NPE would also be wise so we don't void 9 out of 10 people who try it before they finish their cadet matches.
I am concerned though that we'll get the Steam release, Phase 3 will be 'incomplete' or even 'pushed back' in 'CW will be out a few weeks after we go open Beta' style and the 'big rebalance' will be shuffling a few % around on some mechs, much like the last time. In which case the Steam release will go..... poorly.
We'll see.
