right now the machine gun's niche is finishing off mechs with open structure

The only problem with that "niche" is that just about any other weapon does it better than the MG.

The whole implementation of "crit weapons" is a steaming pile of fail, and MWO would be a much better game if it didn't exist. Sadly, it's the brain child of one of the management bozos, and like so many other of those guys' ideas, it's sacrosanct.

Anyway. Remove the "crit weapon" idiocy from the MG and up the DPS to 1.2 or even 2.0. In return, reduce the range back to its original 90 meters.

Just remember...

External armor has double the amount of armor of the internals. Assuming general frontloading designs (and no quirks to either external or internal armor), you are essentially spending 66% of your efforts to the external armor, and 33% to the actual internals.

Just based on that alone is where the MG (and LBX) is only "1/3" useful on simple metrics alone... and that doesn't even tell the whole story.

Machineguns are as much a Staple of Battletech as PPC's.

Even the 3 mechwarrior intro movies, 2/3 and PGI's own, sombody is rocking MG's.

MGs suck so bad, I take all six off my Arrow so I can run 3xLPL instead.

Nuff said.

I honestly used to think PGI knew that MGs were unbalanced, but were saving them for PVE because excessive MG boating was slowing down the servers. It seemed the only logical explanation that didn't involve poor decision making.

But now they've released the 6MG Shadow Cat and I literally have no idea why it's taking them so long to fix the MG. No idea. By now, they must know it's a problem, and there don't seem to be any technical issues, unlike the LBX thing.

So... what the fug?

There's nothing sadder in the whole wide world than an Urbanmech with MGs. It's like a caged bird or a circus elephant.

Yes, but deep down, the Urbie will always miss its big gun. It's like neutering a dog. :(

If they would simply turn it into a very short range AC2 it may even be OP, currently firing them is a waste of time.

Oh yes, that's good. In my book, there are three good ways to play the Urbie.
AC10
LBX10
AC20

Honestly, I think the PGI staff needs a range day. Take them all out and get them some trigger time on a nice belt fed for a few hours. MGs in-game would see a little love after they developed a bit of appreciation for the real thing.

I think it would be hard for them to get range time with a GAU-8

I personaly think, lasers/uac5 + 3MGs are better combos, but if you like it...

The CoF needs to go as well.

So a machine gun with pin point damage. You do realize how unlikely that is, right? By their very nature, they are not accurate.

The crit system in this game hardly makes sense, if you're armorless you're most likely to get destroyed by sheer damage anyways.

When they doubled the TT armour, did they double structure amount as well?
