Hey how's it going? It's been years since I've messed with Flash and I'm trying to set up a new site for the Crimson Knights. I was saKhan of CrK back in the MW4/BZ days. I want to get it going again so I've been working on this site and I want to know what you guys think so far.

I have a LONG way to go on it. What I have so far is just my starting point and I want to know what you think of the general setup and maybe get some suggestions for animations for the buttons and whatnot.

Please keep the trolling and flaming to yourselves.

Go to http://crimsonknight...muv.com/CrK.php

I'm just using that address as a testing/debugging site until I see how well this takes off and possibly move over to a paid service.

And I know that the first thing I need to do is scale the whole thing down a bit. It's a tad big.

Odd... I got a 'website under review' page. Once that clears up however, I'll be happy to take a look. ^_^

Perhaps a dark background, and use the grid pattern you have for information bubbles, so as to not over use it.

For example, when you quote someone on the forums, inside the information bubble you would use the grid, outside would be a flat color or maybe scenery.

Perhaps putting the "welcome", above the giant logo, and having the mantra flow beneath it.

Just a few thoughts...

Warhammer Fantasy Battles player, huh? Okay, now I am able to see it.

Your words, next to the standard, are too dark for the background. Honestly, I would be the heraldry on the right-hand side and put your WELCOME at the top of the left side. Your buttons along the left are humongous, in my opinion unnecessarily humongous. Might also want to center the page and have black as your background.

I understand the motif you're going for, here, and it's some beautiful work you've done, but you might consider wider and shorter. I had to look at those considerations, as well, did some research, and came up with what I did for my site ( http://www.wolvesau.net/AU ). Of course, my site is designed around a high-tech motif instead of a motif of strength, as with yours, but I think it's worth a look, nonetheless.

It looks sweet ShadowMech. Down right Sweet. I do not see one thing I would change.

Its quite hard to read for me. The words seem to disappear into background. Make them a bit darker or contrast more and it should be fine.

Okay, I can see it now. ^_^

Here's my critique:
  • I think there needs to be more contrast between the welcome text and the background. I think it's the black outline the lettering uses, but the words seem to blend too much into the dark background.
  • The text in the welcome message is pretty large - I had to scroll some to read it all. Possibly you might want to consider a smaller font size.
  • The buttons on the left are pretty large. I like the skew effect you've added, but the text looks skewed and stretched. You might consider smaller buttons - if the text is tied to the button graphics, then reducing the button sizes will reduce that stretching effect. Plus, doing so will keep all the buttons easily seen without having to scroll to see them all.
Other than these points, I really like what you've done. Having the button glow effect when I mouse over them is very nice. The layout itself is good too. The dark colors (red and charcoal) looks good to me - and of course the heraldry is verra nice!

OK, thanks for all the ideas everyone. I've updated the layout a bit. Check it out and tell me what you think.

Its too big <---> horizontally. I like the layout below the title, but the title is a little difficult to read, though I do like the pattern behind it.

When I scroll to the right (LOL), the menu is cool looking, but it feels like it is on the wrong side....

MWO link doesn't work.

The transition between menu items is kinda cool, if not maybe a little "old school", but the timing on the transition feels right.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Uncle Monkey. Out of curiosity, what is your normal screen resolution?

As far as the transitions feeling old school...I know, I know. lol My grasp of Flash is pretty limited at the moment. They are just basic designs for what I'm going for until I can really flesh them out and make them what I am really looking for. ^_^ By the way, do you have any links for me to check out menu transitions to get ideas? Much appreciated if you do.

For the links, I've only set up the first two. I will get that one up right now since it's just an external redirect anyway.

It's looking better Shadowmech84, I've got another suggestion to help with the mantra being hard to read, and still keeping the overall feel of the site, I'll upload an example in just a sec after some quick editing.

Just an idea of something you could try, you would replace the default text with your own red, doesn't have to be a book but something to help make your words stand out. I didn't include the buttons, but they would be on the side where you originally had them.
