PG should definitely check out what Warhammer Eternal Crusade is doing with their territorial conquest idea. Way better than what is being done for this game.

World of Tanks also has a pretty good thing to model off of.

Kesmai had it working back in 1992.... in an actual battletech themed game. ;-)

An idea is only as good as the work they put into it. And that game hasn't come out yet. I also heard rumors that they were way behind or overreaching on some of the things they were promising.

Indeed...
Player driven/controlled, much politics as a result, and the fact you earned in game money for your controlled lands was epic. It was also nice that it was team driven, no solo riffraff.

World Of Tanks has Clan Wars, and my experience in that system is one of my main sources of concern for the future of CW. The first problem with that design was that it was premised on scheduling matches in a specific team vs team format that turned it into a job, requiring you to play for specific times and for long stretches of time, and only allowed you to have 100 members to meet all of your obligations on the map. You could easily have two different battles scheduled at the same time, doubling your required online presence to fight effectively, or be forced to forfeit the match and territory when, inevitably, insufficient people show up.

While I am disappointed in the current iteration of MWO's CW, I most certainly don't want it to turn into WoT's Clan Wars.
