So I got a new gaming laptop with windows 8 and I am trying to figure out how I can switch between windows. ie. I have MWO running and instead of going into setting "Video" and changing to window view so I can access my desktop is there an easier way? I have tried the normal "fn" + WIND buttons and "tab" + WIND and nether of them work... any suggestions?

There is a key setup you're missing:

Alt+F4

Then immediately uninstall Windows 8.

Unfortunately true. Win 8 = dog's breakfast.
And don't rush to update to Win 10 just yet. Win 7 home premium 64 is probably best (and proven) OS for PC today.
Windows 10 has /had some problems with video cards from what i heard.

And built in data gathering for targeted ads... On a fairly grand scale. There'll be instructions for avoiding all that crap as more people find and are outraged by it.

Sounds like your keyboard is not correctly configured in Windows setup - so Windows is not seeing the key commands - I would check this out just in case - you may have to remap some of the keys if your keyboard is deviating from industry standard specs.

Alt + Tab sometimes only works when you have another window open. Try it when you have your browser open and it might just work.

^ what zagibu said. If you get stuck, just hit Alt+Enter to switch to fullscreen mode, then you can Alt+Tab to desktop, open something up (a browser, folder, whatever), go back to game, and re-Alt+Enter it back to normal. As long as you have another window open in the background, you can Alt+Tab freely.

Scary staff. NSA is probably giddy with joy over these "functions". I am going to wait for a very long time, see how much of that **** is removed before I even consider an upgrade.

Or, if you do use WIN10, Turn Live Tiles On/Off.

LOTS here we have not yet found, but that turns off Live Update tiles.

Lol at people scared about Windows 10 knowing where your at and giving access to the NSA.

First if you have FB trust me they already know everything.
Two if you have a cell phone they know everything
Three you file taxes correct? They know everything.

I'm not worried if they want to check out my porn collection feel free or the games I play feel free.

i had this same problem on my old computer with win7

what i do i run MWO as a window, but i press 'alt-enter' to make the game full screen after i load up the game

this let me alt-tab in and out while i was waiting for the MM to give me a game, even when MWO was in full screen

load game to main menu
lower right hand side of screen , is a settings button, click that
click video on left side
change window mode to "full window"
change screen resolution to match your desktop res
click save on the left side

have a browser or some other window open , enjoy your alt-tabbing
