Yeah they can just play that co-op mode we have!

oh wait...

It's funny how often people confuse a 12-0 or 12-4 for a bad game and a 12-11 for a good game when in reality it's the total opposite.

Stomps actually happen when it's a good match up, that's the actual nature of MWO's combat, while drawn out almost even final scores means you had two really bad teams facing each other, that's why the final score is so close. But the average player, the great unwashed masses in the underhive as they are so lovingly referred to by so many, don't understand this at all and complain about how bad the match maker is working.

BAD players take forever to kill each other because there is NO teamwork, so you end up with 12-10 scores. GOOD players blow through the enemy so fast that you end up with 12-0 or 12-4 scores because there is a LOT of teamwork. That really is how combat in MWO works, funny how so many people don't get that and think it's the other way around.

Just goes to show you who the good and bad players on when you see them complain about this..*looks at the thread*...yep, pretty much confirms it, does it not?

Win streaks and lose streaks happen. I know none of you want to admit it, but we are all no where near as good as we think we are at this game. And EVERYONE has bad games / days.

The MM and ELO can only do so much to help you, it is WAAAAAAAY past time to stop the blame game and own up what YOU did wrong to contribute to the loss.

Yes leaving your assault lance to get gobbled up by me and another light is YOU losing the match by not covering their fat asses.

It's been a problem for the longest of times that small groups are going to have a less than ideal series of drops.

A shame, because it's also how most people start playing almost every game out there.

If only those small groups had, I dunno, some tools in-game of some sort to help them meet other small groups, talk to them, or even chat with them.

I think with those tools those small groups working alone would do better working as one group instead of a few small groups fighting other small groups, but work together.

However, IF duo groups are allowed in solo queue because they do not want to face teamwork, I will relish the day those same duo groups complain about the solo queue rolfstomping them.

It will be GLORIOUS!

Which is exactly what people SHOULD be doing to bring friends into MWO and get them able to play it well enough to have fun BEFORE they face the crowds in either Solo or Group ques.

Teach your friend how their Mech works, what the weapons do, what the ranges mean and how they effect damage potential, how to twist to spread damage, how to use cover to avoid LRMs, and all the other things that most of us take for granted because we've been playing Mech games for years or decades now.

Yes, they won't make any cbills or earn xp while you teach them these things, true enough, but guess what? When your friend drops in the real game, they will NOT be an easy kill and will actually have fun AND make cbills and xp. They won't be the first kill of the drop, as they are now, because they won't be a FNG with a huge target painted on them, as most new players are in MWO right now. YOU will have taught them how to not to be a target but instead how to be a hunter, right? So they'll have a much better experience and have fun, instead of just dying before they know what the hell happened because they were firing their SL as a target 600m who had dual Gauss and LPLs.

Funny, but that's EXACTLY how we trained newbs back in MW2, MW3 and MW4, as well as how we trained newbs in Tribes, Tribes 2, BF1942, BF:Vietnam, BF2 and so on. Simple private drops with the newb to TEACH them how the game works and how to not be a FNG.

People are so damned spoiled now, they expect to drop into a game without an effing clue and be able to be a god of death immediately...smh.

Well -- I agree with allowing DUOs into the pug queue. I play with my wife and every time we drop together, we just get steamrolled over maybe 3 out every 4 games. It's becoming bad. I've already spent quite a bit of money in this game and was prepared to pitch in to upgrade my SO's account and get her some stuff but at this point, nope.

Have you tried working with the other 10 people in the group?

Would think you two would do better working with 10 others instead of you two vs 12.

I suggest Group Chat, VOIP, and LFG.

Remember, Teamwork = Victory.

That teamwork means all 12 of you working together, not just a couple. You and your SO work together don't you? Imagine if all 12 of you did. You prolly DC for you both don't you? All you need to do is just hit Caps Lock and everyone can now follow your DCing.

Your odds for victory just improved and the best part, it did not cost a thing but a keystroke.

MW2 came with a great single player game, but oddly enough, MOST new MW2 online players never touched it before they jumped online, even before the MW2 95 release that made getting online easy compared to the original. Same with MW3 and MW4, most of the new online players had never touched the single player side of the game before they jumped online.

So, we trained them in the things the single player game would have taught them first, how to move, how to select weapons, ranges, you know, the BASICS that they should have had before they ever got online, but never learned because they never touched the single player side of the game.

At least with Tribes, people had an excuse, it had NO single player side to each you anything but basic movement, and that was all it had for offline or single player. Tribes 2 had actual single player missions and training, but that didn't matter, few people bothered with it, same with BF1942, et al. People got the games, jumped immediately into the multiplayer side without ever learning how the game actually played, so WE, the players who did know, taught them, usually using some sort of private drop or server so we could teach them without dealing with other players messing with them. Quake games, Unreal, Counter Strike, hell even the original CoD game, we did this, because most people just wanted to play online and never bothered to touch the single player side to learn how to play.

Watch last townhall from 1:02:00 to 1:11:30. Group size was discussed.

Was very interesting to hear Russ say 93% of matches in the group queue have only groups of size 4 or smaller. So it would appear that most of these stories about new friends getting run off by 12 mans pretty overblown.

I play solo queue. A single 2-player group per team would be fine. That would mitigate 80% of the problem.

If you have Duo's in the group queue whats to say you wont get a whole team of Duo's vs All solos? Or even 2-1? Thats really unfair to Solo guys and new comers IMO.

My lancemate and myself would have wrecked house last night running in PNT's or ACH's as pairs in a SOLO environment. We would have feasted on back meat of all classes. We did just fine as a pair of lights jumping into game with 6 and 8 mans on the other side. The only game that was in question was when the 6 man on our side (who will remained anonymous for their safety) claimed that TS and plans were pointless unless you were a 12 man.... .

We still won, even with their Disconnected player and the bulk of our team with their heads up their own a$$e$.

Teamwork, Even on the lance level is paramount to most other things in this game.

A better solution is to allow solos into the group queue. We'll show everyone how it's done. ;)

I've had the opportunity to play alongside some exceptional players, even serve as filler for some competitive matches, even back in the pop tart meta days. Almost always a roll - 12-2 or the like. The better the players the better they are at protecting their wounded and exporting opportunities to focus fire. Both sides whittle, snipe, product and position until there is a mistake or opening then they overwhelm.

The winner may not have a mech over 40% but they have 8-12 left.

Don't mistake a roll for a bad game. A bad game is when a team doesn't work together or some teammates don't even try. That is a bad game.

I'll just share my experience so far:
I brought a friend into MWO. He's having fun.
We played some matches together in group queue. I was expecting some really bad games.
Mostly fought other small groups: 2-4 max.
We had a lot of fun. Some games are stomps (win or lose), but that happens.

It is to be said that we play EU prime-time.
Maybe in NA there are more big groups, so the queue is more "stomp-prone"?

The big issue here is when you have a friend trying to teach him the game you have to drag him with your elo into games he is not meant to be, and won't lern much than dying fast.

It's problematic, because this heavily differs from 2 veterans and good players joining, which in the solo Q would have quite a lot impact.

"We're sick of getting rolled!" - 2 and 3-man groups
"Elo isn't working for us, we're getting matched with opponents that are too good!" - 10 man groups
"We have no other 12-man groups to play against!" - 12 man groups
"Community warfare sucks!" - Everyone

No matter what PGI does, there will be sad faces. Being selfish, I'd love to see group queue for only 2, 3 and 4 players and then make CW the place for anything bigger than 4-man groups. The only problem with this is that the CW queue time is ridiculous, partially because so many people hate CW. So forcing people into a queue where they spend most of their playtime waiting and/or playing game modes they don't enjoy is going to upset a lot of people. And bringing back 12-mans as a separate queue is basically pointless, because the percentage of players who play 12-mans is tiny, according to PGI.

It seems to me that the status quo is the lesser of all evils, unless PGI can make some very significant changes to CW, to the point where it will become a larger part of the game for more people.

And yeah, I know everybody doesn't hate CW. Just... a lot of people.

while a good idea, it will just cause usual 12 mans to create decks suited for synchdropping and then you have the 12 man vs the rest issue again quite regulary.

Got back into MWO recently to check it out and realised how fun the game can be in short stints. So I got my brother back in to play. We group up and then I remember that we'll get put in the group queue. No biggie, let's see how this goes.

It's exactly the same as I remember it - you either totally roll the other team or you're the team being rolled. Out the two dozen or so games we played initially, both of us can't remember having one where it was close enough to make it an actual good game. Maybe it was a bad night, I dunno. So we decided to give MWO a real go over the weekend.

After the weekend duo'ing, both of us found our motivation to keep playing basically die.

When I logged off I critiqued what made me message my brother to come back in and I realised that I had the most fun in PUG land where the single queue is at. There the games had a pretty much even spread of rolling, being rolled but also close games where "gg" actually means exactly that instead of "ggclose".

TLDR; Duo's shouldn't be in the group queue where they can meet up with premades. You either totally destroy the other team or you're the team being destroyed by a bigger premade.

As it is, MWO will still only be a casual game where I fire it up to get my mech fix then switch off. It's certainly not a game where I'd enjoy duo'ing. We went back to Arma 3 and ED for that.

The only bad game is the one you lose. Even then I can find solace when I kill 2 assist with 3 and do 250+ damage. I had a good game even in loss.
