The Battle of Midway was a 4v4 tournament for the Asia-Pacific region. Often forgotten by our friends across the oceans, BFM was all about promoting the competitive scene in the AP region.
12 teams, with some bigger organisations fielding two teams, entered BFM to battle it out for glory of the AP region. These 12 were divided into two divisions.
It was a tough fight for everyone involved. Some players had not properly played MWO in a while, but were eager to dust off their skills for a tournament in their own region. 4v4 brought unique challenges to every team, the best teams adapting their usual large unit strategies to the smaller and faster play of 4v4. Upon a pile of twisted metal and melted mechs, the rugged Mechwarriors of the Asia-Pacific region clawed their way into the finals.
Three teams of each division rose to the glory of the podium finish.
In a thrilling 3-1 Grand Final, 1st Jaguar Goats (JGx) defeated The Wild Ones (228 IBR) to take first place in Division 1, whilst Squad Foxtrot (OMC) took third place.
The competition in Division 2 was equally fierce, the Inner Sphere Rustbuckets (ISRC) took first place against the Isengrim Blackhearts (ISEN), but that didn't stop the Bluebirds (SLMJ) getting into third place.
The AP region players kicked ass, took names, and showed the world how fierce some of the competitive teams for MWO are down here, and it was a fantastic competition all around. There was some great feedback from all the teams, regardless of win or loss (even from the noble Space Wizards of Chaos, who did not win a single game). The willingness of all teams to work around timezone issues and other problems in a reasonable and efficient way was fantastic to see.
Some other notable points:
228 brought their Gold Mech to the fore. I think the shinyness blinded the other team.
Legion of Bears managed to kill two of THEIR OWN PLAYERS in an air strike. And still went on to win the game, "never give up" is clearly their motto.
JGx and Bluebirds went beyond the call of duty to ensure their games were played so that the tournament could keep running smoothly, which helped myself behind the scenes a fair bit.
Thanks to PGI for providing hero mechs as prizes for the winners
Thanks to all units who took part (in no particular order!)
