The origin of this came up when someone referred to our mechbays as a hangar like in star citizen. I always preferred to think of it as my dropship which got me thinking. If it were a lore-based dropship, what dropship/jumpship combination would I need to haul all my mechs. Here's what I'd need. How about anyone else? Please no warships, only dropships and jumpships.

2x Overlord Dropships
2x Union Dropships
1x Liberty Class Jumpship

Here are some links to the Dropship and Jumpship page on Sarna.

Any chance you'd be willing to give an overview of the various dropships and jumpships and their capacity? Or are we supposed to do our own research on Sarna as part of the fun? :)

I would need... 4 Overlords and a Liberty almost exactly. I'd only need a Union (and another jumpship) once the IIC pre-orders arrive because I'd have 4 empty bays currently and would be getting 16 more IIC Mechs, but would then need to exchange that Union for another Overlord in order to get any further pre-orders.

LOL, that's part of the fun, but tell you what, I'll update the OP with links to what you'll need.

A while ago I thought the mechbay was a facility on a planet not a dropship. Since players load the dropship for the Galaxy map battles and the number of mech players have. Although they could possibly add to Battletech assets and have some sort of deep space mega station of some sort also.(thinking Mass Effects Citadel station or Omega station here)(This game needs an Omega station! totally awsome ME 2 spot)

Maybe the jumpship assets could be changed up to include massive mech bay facilities which then loads mechs onto dropships?

If for instance the facility was on the capital worlds of the various factions then if that capital world was ever captured there would have to be a fee to move the facility contents off world in the event off a loss... This fee could be part of switching factions also... also a deterent to losing...

Just some thoughts on the sim here. :)

So I can't have the SLS Duke of York then? :(

Apparently 3 x Overlords would be sufficient to hold the entire contents of my mech bay, and probably all my spares & weapons as well...

3 Fortress would give me room to grow!

Quote

The Fortress carries an entire combined-arms battalion, a company each of BattleMechs, Combat Vehicles and Infantry, within three Cargo Bays. The first bay carries the ship's compliment of twelve 'Mechs with a single access door. The second carries twelve heavy vehicles, though it is serviced by two doors. The last bay carries three platoons of infantry, who also enter and exit through two access doors, along with one hundred and seventy-five tons of cargo.[4]

Plus would give me 3 Long Toms to piss off the anti Arty crowd!

OP

Invader Jumpship x2
Overlord Dropship x6

I've basically got enough mechs that if I had the ships to move them all I could carve out my own empire.

I'd need an Overlord and a Union. And with the mechs on my short term wish-list I'd like to field 2 Leopards, so I can make lance sized tactical drops for more battlefield flexibility.

I'd use 2 Merchant class jumpships for strategic flexibility.

A Hunter and an Overlord would be enough for my stable.

Just to be the nerd I am, and maybe speed things up a bit the dropship capacity is like this.

1. Leopard. 4 mech lance, 2 aerospace fighters, can fly like an airplane, and can land both vertically and horizontally (vertical is used mostly on airless worlds with low gravity). The size of a double wide jumbo jet.

2. Union. 12 mech company, 2 aerospace fighters, lands vertically, is essentially a giant spherical rocket ship the size of a small skyscraper.

3. Overlord, 36 mech battalion, 6 aerospace fighters, lands vertically, is essentially an even bigger egg shaped rocket ship than the Union.

I think I own around 80 mechs or so, but I have always like the Union. For me I think about an equal number of Unions and Leopards. I'm not a fan of the Overlord. Too big and I prefer to spread out the pain if a dropship gets destroyed (in the board games that is, I have had that happen).

A handful of Overlords ought to suffice, and a Monolith Jumpship, just to make sure I have enough room for extra Dropships as time goes by and my personal stable increases in size.
