They look dirty and old and the camo and colors on them don't look as nice as they do on clan mechs.

Is this because it's meant to be this way? IS mechs being dirty old rustbuckets, and clan mechs being new shiny stuff?

I believe this has to do with the mech skin texture resolution. Many of the older models have very low resolution skins, making them appear dirty and fuzzy. Lordred used to have a table comparing different chassis and variants, but it looks like it's been taken down: Link

The day you strip the dirt off my mechs are the day I stop playing mechwarrior! Dirt for the dirt god! Mud for the mud throne!

But that's a good thing.
Glorious IS mechs look like war machines. They look used, they look like they've seen battle, that they've been through hell and back AND back again into hell!

Filthy Clan mechs look like plastic toys in comparison.

Some IS mechs look absolutely terrible and NOT in a good way. process is 100% right it is down to some of them having low textures and details.

Wolverine is a great example, if you paint it different colours in mech lab it looks like the old 800 x 600 mechlab in MW4.

Thats because we have all these Inner Sphere bondsmen we took cleaning our 'mechs for battle. Can't kill stravag freebirth scum in dirty 'mechs. It's unbecoming of a proper Clan warrior.

IS mechs look the way they do because, they are old, war torn, and due to lost production capabilities, techs have to scavenge for replacement parts. The design decision by PGI to have IS mechs visually look this beat up is actually pretty cool IMO.

Now, brings up an interesting point. Should the Bushwacker look like this, or should it look closer to the Clan aesthetic? The Bushwacker (unlike other IS mechs), is brand-spanking-new for 3053 after all and not a cobbled together mess that rolled off the line in 3025.

I suppose it should keep the standard IS dirty look for the BW since techs in the field have little time for a bucket of soap and water.

As an interesting twist though, the mech pack MC Bushwacker could be clean and showroom fresh (as opposed to the Resistance ones that look shot up and part of a Mad Max nightmare).

Remember when they nerfed PC gamer colors and made the 'mechs look worse?

Ah... good times...

PGI is the only company in the history of gaming to develop color nerfing technology.

Some mech have the dirty and oily look and thats cool, others just have lowrez texture. In the mechlab all texture should be insanly high, lower them ingame i dont care it's going to get burned anyway.

Gief plz
  • High quality textures. Dirty =/= low fidelity
  • Custom geometry
  • Custom cosmetic textures (e.g. dirty, bullet holes-y, factory fresh, etc)
After all, not all mechs in 3050 were built centuries ago. There are still active mech factories in the Inner Sphere, quiaff?
