I broke down and bought some MC for use on the sale.. I've bought the Cicada 2A(C), but what else should I get, any tips? Is there any good deals right now or should I just get something else?
I really want a Battlemaster, but there's no champion version, nor a mastery bundle :(

If you're looking at Assault mechs to buy and can't get the Battlemaster (the one I want too), then you could go Victor (for speed and it gets a right-arm A/C20 and 2 LPL's) or Atlas, which is like a legged Battlemaster in a rage!

Just skimmed the sales list and wow most of those mechs are the garbage variants.

Standouts for me (based on the chasis I have some experience with):

Firestarter
Raven
Banshee (getting the non-hero variant for my next assault)

Hunchback - I've seen the medium laser Hunchbacks used to great effect in matchs.

The Atlas, Highlander and Victor really struggle in the current MWO enviroment. Stalker 3F is sorta ok (I have one) but the current mass ECM spam from Scats and Artic Cheaters makes LRMs painful to actually use.

Timberwolf Prime is also good if you want a Clan option :P

Don't.
Champion 'mechs are not worth the MC.
Spend it on camos, cockpit items, mechbays, et cetera.

Buy mechs with C-bills, unless it's a Hero 'mech.

Don't waste your MC on champion mechs. The xp bonus isn't worth it. Wait for a hero sale, they have them fairly often. Or just buy premium time. Imho.

I think champion mechs are great if they ever add anything else to the game that requires GXP other than whats already in game. Its a smart move if they do. Extending the mech exp grind is not something anyone would like, although I dont think its to bad at the moment.

Dragon hero mechs...I've had the fang & flame for the longest time as they were my gap filler while I waited for the clan mechs / mad-cat. so I played them a lot back in the day before my playtime started to dwindle away...they were really fun

Or premium time is always worth it...I'm thinking of playing again and buyin another year of time

Out of those listed in the sale, I like the Centurion (A), Hunchback (4P), and Enforcer (4R).

Those are all pretty good (especially if you like Medium mechs).

The Centurion has good A/C10 quirks, but just be mindful that the quirks might change soon. The Hunchback is a pretty capable MLaser boat, but it takes some good weapon discipline due to it's hot nature. The Enforcer is very flexible. It can run 5 MPLasrers with a fast STD engine, or a decent ballistic with good energy backup.

Out of the ones I liked, I'd rank them...

1st: Enforcer
2nd: Hunchback
3rd: Centurion

Now, since you do have one Champion already, I personally would use your MC on a Hero instead. If you need to grind GXP, you can always go back to your Cicada. It wouldn't hurt to have 1 C-Bill booster mech after all.

The XP bonus isn't... but the XL engine on some of them is if you don't feel like grinding out 6 million cbills.

Jenner JR7-F (C) in particular is great for this as the XL300 is useful in many mediums, most heavies, a few assaults, and of course Jenners. And it's only like 700 MC at the moment. Hell, buying champion jenners and then selling the parts for cbills is the best way to convert MC into cbills as you make around 3.5 million cbills per champion jenner sold off. So at the normal price of 1450 MC you get 3.5 million cbills compared to the paltry 2.4 million you'd get from buying a cbill pack.

Might as well get an X5. It's probably the best anti light variant and you already like cicadas.

Probably a solid idea. He already has 1 Champ Cicada, he could get the X5 Cicada for C-Bills, and if he still needs to elite them, he is already 2/3 the way there.

Seems like a solid plan.

Probably the better idea and will give the second / 3rd chassis for masteries / pilot skills

It is something I wanted to try to do before I kind of burned out on the game...wanted to get 3 chassis for those I liked and have 2 of them be a hero & champion...really helps when you don't have premium time

Buy a Banshee, best IS assault mech IMO.

Yeah, the Flame seems nice with the ability to have a high mounted AC/20. No sale though and 4,500 MC seems a bit much...

Wait for sale on those. Flame if I recall was by far my favorite of the two.

Go with what works best for you...sounds like it might be the x5

The Flame plays like a hunchback with a giant shoot here target on the CT instead of where your gun is.. and with less useful quirks. It's a fun ride, but the dragon makes for a terrible brawler and it sucks up a heavy mech slot giving the enemy a timbie or thud.

Still if you like dragons, it's a better choice than the 5n for a 3rd variant.

However, since you already have the Cicada champ, the X5 is probably the best choice.

The Stalker 3F is a generalist quirk wise, you don't have to make it a LRM boat. I think it also has the best torso twist of the stalkers so it doesn't suffer as badly at close range.

Another choice for the Flame is a gauss rifle and medium lasers, the shoulder hard point is very good for shooting without exposing much of the mech.

+1 for mc for hero mechs. Get a good one, or two and you can start racking up the cbills.

Also sub can help with the cbills, quite a bit.

Wouldn't he have been better off just getting the mastery pack though?

And yeah, X5 is cool if you want CERML on your IS mech (range anyway). I think they end up at 405m with the module.
