Section 8 had kind of a cool system, you could spawn anywhere on the map, except where the area was covered by anti-air cannons. There were some pre-placed anti-air cannons on the map that could be fought over, and you could spend your money (from kills, heals, and captures) to buy deployed ones (As well as land defenses or vehicles like tanks and mechs).

I guess I dont really know how it would work in MWO, I'm inclined to say no, I'd rather see a more strategic form of battle, attacking strong points from the ground, knowing when to hold back and when to press, etc. Its good for fast-paced games like Section 8 (very unreal/tribes esque) but I'd like something a bit more slow and thoughtful for MW. It wouldn't be disappointing to include, and could certainly be worked in thoughtfully, but my preference is "no".

If it is in I would definitely vote "no" for any type of certification requirement. It'd be lame to have to spawn far behind the rest of your team and split up your faction because you/your ally didn't jump through the right hoops.

As long as me and my unit's reserve lance of light and medium mechs can bail out of the dropship and into the firefight with "Shoot to Thrill" blasting from the dropship's transmitters so powerfully that it drowns out comms on every channel for 30 klicks, then I'm all for it. (Why, yes, I -am- an Iron Man fan...)

I'm imagining "Black Betty" blaring out of my dropship for some reason... :P

I think this is an awesome idea. It would add an extra tactical layer to the gameplay.

Capturable Spawn points are likely I think. Hot drops would need some sort of ability to start almost anywhere on the map but perhaps begin with a heat penalty for a few minutes. I like the idea of there being AAA turrets that target droping mechs or Air Strikes, taking those out would allow you to move your spawn site up.

I also think it should be a skill that can be devloped by 'Attack" focused Mechwarriors (as opposed to Defend, Command, or Scout) Gaining skills in Hot Drops would reduce the length of your heat penalty, reduce the chance of taking damage during a hot drop, and maybe make you hot drops more accurate, or let you drop further into enemy territory.

I would also put a weight limit on hot drops. Otherwise you have people dropping an assault lance on the other teams spawn point right at the beginning of the match and spoiling everybody's fun.

Not so sure about that. Especially if there are AAA Turrets and Assaults are easier to target on the way down. I think all mechs should be able to drop, some should just be better at it.

I'd also like the option to attempt those "hotdrops" with a eEch without JumpJets and without the drop tornister. Saying just after jumping out... "Sorry guys, I totally forgot my rucksack..." and then after a short flight going *splat* on the surface. And probably a building or Mech below me as well going *splat*. That would be the ultimate exploit to circumvent "no DFA manoeuvres" nerfs, right? And a major annoyance to the dropping party who lost a Mech with no return at all.

Should get me that copyrighted as a griefing method... :P

Oh, but of course, I would be all for doing a hot drop.
It is a favourite strategy of mine, dropping the reinforcements straight into the heart of the storm.
And it is a feth load of fun.
